This was a disaster. I work IT for United and our team was running around like headless chickens the past few days trying to get stuff working. To add to the complexity, all the workstations use bitlocker so we had to get those codes to get in far enough to delete the file. We've found some quicker shortcuts so it's not as bad but there's 1749 computers in IAD that have all needed to be touched. Only thing still down are the gate displays as they were considered 3rd priority, we'll start fixing those Monday.

My single largest concern when deploying an EDR is causing production outages, I think every one I’ve done over the past 15 years has caused some sort of issue. It just got exponentially more difficult to put one in. Side note: if you don’t know how costly CS Falcon is, especially when sold under the “Complete” package, take a guess what a 10,000 endpoint deployment would cost. If you guessed somewhere between $500-750k, you’re getting close. It’s not terribly difficult to get to a million.

Not to mention that most company IT departments know to have a test system that is configure like their live systems to run updates on first for a while to validate their local suitability. This smells like an auto-update their software did that didn't follow standard practices. And unless this was pushed because some zero day was being used in wild that could do catastrophic damage, there is no excuse for it. I don't have more than speculation at this time, all based on the news and hype, but I do suspect it's going to be a very rough time for crowd strike, possibly ending them as a company. Though these companies were also running windows in mission critical roles for servers and the like versus a more suitable OS so they do need some of the blame.

ATI did head to head competition with Nvidia, then AMD bought ATI and then they didn't. And after the massively expensive purchase AMD CPU's lost market share due to a loss in competitive CPU's created by a loss in cash reserves used to pay for R&D. Makes one wonder about the standing of Intel and Nvidia if ATI and AMD remained separate. The purchase crushed AMD's fabs and they did have fabs back then making AMD CPU's, was even big news about I believe it was Fab 7 prior to the acquisition.

Paul, why not make your own hardware? As example: A unique itx pc case.. why unique? Why heat a cpu cooler and push into air and the air out of the case? A direct-direct case-cpu cooler which transfer heat to the case-side. The case side has "Airpipe-cooling design" nickel-copper tubes where air goes through the sidewall of the case. My calculations show that the matter density is the biggest factor in transfering heat (energy) and the transfer into air depends on the area-volume. Air (gas) is 1/22 of water density = 1/22 of energy transfer compared to water. Metal like iron/steel is arround 7,8. The cpu area multiplied by 22 results in a cooler area of 100% heat transfer but only if the air moves through that area per second. Thats audible. So the cooling area has to be 44x cpu area. Silicon 2,3 has a lower density than copper 8,9. Nickel-copper as direct cpu contact which is a unibody with the nickel-copper tubes inside the case-side transfers the heat very fast and direct into the air which flows through it. I invented the "Airpipe-cooling design" but i want someone actually make it. I have no rights at it but own sure the oldest document, technical drawings and calculation of density/heat transfer.
