@Angel Camacho right he said a whole bunch of parts that are weak points in the 5.3 but they're only weak points in a moded motor. Stock 5.3 the parts he listed are bulletproof like Dr. Westside was saying. GM did an amazing job with the 5.3. I've got one with 230k on it and it's still a STRONG motor. They engineered the parts to work within the parameters of the stock application and tune and you can punish it at this level with no concern

This sounds like boost prep. You will probably not make gains from this or really save $ imo. Head and cam with nitrous is still the budget king with chevy small blocks. LS can go far with stock intakes and work on factory heads. When you are making 7-800hp, you may think about checking the ring gap and running a solid tuning system, but you still don't need forged pistons or rods.

Seen em over 800 horsepower stock bottom end. And if you blow it up? You got the junkyard and get another one for 500 bucks and do it again. The Vortec engines LOVE top end mods. Cam, intake, Head and springs. Easy 600 horse combo just doing that and there been many times where a cam alone picks up 100 horsepower putting you into 300 WHEEL horsepower range with ONE bolt on. Another thing to mention is when doing a swap fuel pump is first thing that's going to need to happen!

Until your rockers crack and your valves shatter, pistons shouldn’t even be considered until it’s got better heads with guts that can actually support some power, the fueling system including pump… well everything but the bottom end really. That comes last as it’s still good for close to 600hp
this is a pretty good list. only thing i’d change is the oil pump. i’d say pick up a high volume oil pump instead of a high pressure. LS doesn’t need high pressure until you get into built heads. high volume helps with the overall cooling and lubrication of upgrades.
@katieneubaum4284

New O-rings & basket filters too , also did the knock sensors & wire harness / intake manifold & throttle body cleaned with new intake manifold gaskets . New Valve cover gaskets. New spark plugs & plug wires . All cylinders have 200psi according to my tool ( not sure if psi is correct but they are all even that’s what’s important. ) changed the engine oil & filter . flushed the coolant system . Runs like a top . It did have the transmission rebuilt @180k if I remember correctly. but I definitely want to give it some more love like get a new oil pump & O-ring for the pick up tube . & other things that will help with longevity rather then performance. @@earlwheeler5323 depends on how much power you are trying to get out of it and if you want it boosted or not. I see a lot of guys throwing a pro charger on that stock setup with a tune and getting another 100-150 out of it. With that being said when I started I started with a good cam, valve springs, exhaust and intake (not manifold just filter with a better ram) and a proper dyno tune. Kept it the most reliable while still making a lot more power. Sounded much better, revved a little higher and was still far more street-able. If you do a lot of canyon racing and aren’t just using it to cruise around or do occasional pulls throw a dry sump in it too otherwise you will starve the engine for oil. Don’t just upgrade the oil pump if turning under a lot of gs do a proper dry sump setup. They aren’t hard to get into since many corvettes come with them if your doesn’t have it already.

All you need is, oilpump, injectors, stage 2 cam and valvesprings 80mm turbo and wastegate, 3bar map sensor and switch to iat. I'm stock bottom end, on 6l, im making 700whp, and on my truck 5.3 making 940whp. The 700whp is been holding for 3yrs, still has stock lifter, rings rods, never been touched. I didn't even regap the rings.

Would you say this is the best bang for your buck junkyard motor? I'm looking to build 600hp for a boat.
