Hi, the timber I use is Pine (45mm x 35mm), the type of paint I use is mainly used for garden fencing and is pet friendly and the wire mesh is 13mm x 13mm 19 gauge that I bought in the hardware store. Hope this helps.

+NeshyWeshy 155 The timber i used is 2x2, the wire mesh is 1/2 inch, the screw's are 4 x70 mm, the staples are 12mm, i used a handsaw, cordless screwdriver and a hand stapler. Hope that helps.

I would love to see a follow up video with the birds safely in their home, with parrots though i would not paint the timber, stain and paint can be toxic if they do nibble as I've noticed the added perches do not seem to be protected with the mesh.

Always remember to be extremely careful when building an aviary! You must do research! You can't just buy whatever wood or wire is cheapest because many types of wood are poisonous to birds and many types of metals are too. Also, if the metal is too thin or weak, chipping can occur causing other health problems. Please choose you materials wisely so you don't risk the safety of your birds!

It's completely up to yourself if you paint it or not, this is just something I have always done. I put nothing on the floor of the aviary, it's just standing on the concrete.

I left a 4mm space between the door and the frame, that's 4mm space on both sides and the top and bottom, 1 cm would be too much. Hope this helps.

I had a young chicks in a coop 6x6x6 with a gable on top adding another 2' at the ceiling. It's covered with small honey coned chicken wire. My chickens are big n mature enough now to free range and can still use the housing and nester to sleep and lay eggs so I want to convert the coop to an aviary. Will I have to change the chicken wiring to mesh wiring?

I'm thinking about making one of these for my cockatiel, but I've got limited space so I was thinking of doing it 2.5ft deep, 4ft long and 5ft high. I'm just not sure if that's a big enough space for her to be comfortable flying in. And we couldn't find a wire that would be good for her to climb around on, do you have any idea how big it needs to be for her to feel comfortable to fly in?

if the grid - net is made of plastic, looks like here is not good. This is because birds specially parrots have the habit to bite everything. and I will destroy, I did better with metal net.

Hi patrick, i also kept birds in a steel shed, i would use an infra red heat lamp during real cold winter nights, hang it over one end of the aviary.

This is an inspiring video and much like I envision my future aviary. The only thing I would add is a half inch clearance on the bottom under which I could slide a floor pan out to clean it without having to get into the cage.

Thank you so much for sharing this on KZitem. It is a really good video your a star. I purchased my timber from Wickes currently £12.60 for 8 pieces. I purchased my wire from Wickes but you can get 19 from Ebay for less, but it has a five year guarantee 6 meters by about 1 meter is about £22.00. In their brochure there is a 20% off timber.

I would use a much thicker gauge wire and just weld it to the metal structure, although I have never made an aviary out of metal. The wire I use in this video would be to thin to do that.

Straight perches with no bumps on is quite bad for your birds feet always remember to have either natural branches that is safe for your bird or bumpy perches made for birds. But other than that pretty good aviary.

I have a question about the door. How much space did you leave between the door and the door frame? Is 1 cm on each side enough? I don't want the door to get stuck or the budgies to try to squeeze out.

Went to B & Q for a staple gun to staple my new aviary - chappy told me NOT to use staples as none of them are galvanised so will quickly rust, instead he pointed me in the direction of GALVANISED pins.

Hi, If I was building an outdoor aviary I would use galvanised staples ( the ones you use a hammer to beat in) but for the indoor aviary the other staples are fine.

wait what type of wire is that? I really can't find any wire but galvanized ones which contains zinc. Also I don't live in America so is there any chance i can buy that type of wire online?

+jiwon hong I've talked to my vet about the best wire to use and he said galvanized steel is the most reasonable. He said it isn't ideal but the only other option is stainless steel and its significantly more expensive. This can be purchased at tractor supply company.

No, I used galvanised dipped wire. Stainless Steel is very expensive.

Yes the timber is 2"x2" thick, i think it came in 15ft lenghts, have no idea how many i bought.

Thanks, I don't put anything on the floor of the aviary, it's just standing on the concrete, I clean it once a week and take's me less than five minutes.

Would probably cost €150 to make now as the price of materials have increased in the past 2 years, but i think it only cost about €80 when i built this.
