I noticed you only secured to the wall on the left and the right side with screws and not the top and bottom so what you think if you left a 5 inch on the left and right and you cut the 2 inch at 45 from the back without breaking the waterproofing and you could’ve just add some adhesive on the back and fold it to create a flange

I love your stuff but I have a huge issue with this for a few reasons: 1. Why are you chopping out the studs without reinforcing it at all? You could have framed out a big "window" with a header or even a box bigger than your niche with studs above and below it prior to closing up that wall and then done the same thing. 2. What is the point of going to all that effort to build a niche out of laticrete board when you could have framed with wood and done drywall with the membrane on top of it? 3. The membrane calls for a 2" overlap. You do not have 2" from the edge of your niche to that seam and the screws you put in. 4. On the bottom edge of your niche you have a huge vulnerability. Right at the edge of your niche where the membrane meets the foam, water can get into there and will then be behind the membrane and can make its way behind the backerboard via the seam you cut in the wall. You would need to put some kind of "flashing" at the very least so that water that gets into the niche can drain out safely

If it’s not load bearing wall the studs are there just a hold of sheekrock up in this case he didn’t need it because he was replacing it with a shelf I think 🤔

is it a load bearing wall? If the niche flange is 2inch and the membrane covers all of it. What is the total overlap? What about the color of his shirt and the tone for his voice? Are we okay with those?....Since we going all out to tear this man down....SMH..

@@jamrock97sb It doesn’t matter if it’s loadbearing, it still needs the studs locked back together. His shirt looks good and I love the tone of his voice and I also love his videos but when you’re teaching something to other people you need to do with the proper way.

@@patrickgrant3560 I agree. Load bearing or not you still need to bridge that distance you created between suds for structural support for the sheet rock. Sheet rock needs 16" on center studs minimum or it flexes too much. If load bearing then a header large enough for the weight factor as well as cripple studs.

Cutting corners because he cut out 2x4s that potentially support the ceiling above. Love his work but this is a no go. If u cut out 2 or 3 2x4s you need to add header cripples and jack studs
@patrickgrant3560

@@oswaldocazares76 Exactly, at the very least a 2 x 4 connecting the studs back together on the top and bottom to minimize deflection if not weight-bearing.

I actually like Winni and used to watch him a lot. However I seldom watch now because of things like this. This is definitely not as he called it....a "master class".
