When installing the flat for the mid-boarder, first, make sure you know where the mid-boarder is located. Then, rip blocks 1-1/2" less than the joist width and install them with the rip side towards the flat.
Next, cut the flat about 1/2"-3/4" short and evenly space the blocks on the flat. Toe nail the blocks to the flat and then flip the flat over and sink the GRK screws into the flat. It's recommended to have one person on the deck and another underneath for installation.
When installing the flat, work from one end to the other to ensure that the flat is flush with the joist. Nail the block to the joist to hold it in place and then go through and screw it in for added stability.
