you could tie a rope around the dowel rod to pull this with, or mount some kind of T bar that folds over the cart for storage to enjoy a full range of motion walking experience with the extended cart handle. PVC maybe would be strong enough for this

NICE! One tip for when cutting all thread....first put a hex nut behind your cut so that when you spin it off it cleans up the burrs on the threads. Makes it a lot easier to start the finish nut.

To add more strength to the four walls, I would suggest cutting a rabbet or dado (recessed troughs) into them with a router or table saw. Then glue where you join them, followed by the screws.

nice; exactly what I want to do to build a small trash cart/trailer that I can tow to the dump. I don't want to risk trash in my van... I would probably use an old cart and modify; but I may have to register it if I have to use my car to tow.

Great build. One thing, you will want to get away from treated lumber for gardening. It would be best to get pine or cedar, and if you still don’t feel confident of the raw wood, throw some food safe uv protection. (Most of it is food safe but ask when buying it) have had mine for 8 years. Always add a sealant coat to keep it looking nice. Granted I need a bigger one now, still a good cart. I like the axel on this build. 👍🏽

These carts should last you for years! Just wanted to let you know that wheel chair wheels would work just as well, if you find a pair for cheap. Slightly bigger diameter, and they have hard rubber tires. Companies that refurbish wheel chairs may discard the old ones and give them away for free. Also, a piece of tire tread cut from an old car tire could be glued & screwed to the bottom of the front support legs. This would keep the legs from directly contacting wet soil. Look forward to seeing you use these carts!

Nice job. One thing though. The edging was actually more crucial than you may have known. End grain of plywood does not take glue or screws well. Your box joints were unfortunately going to be prone to failure down the line without that reinforcement. joining plywood is actually a lot more tricky than most people think, you can't treat it the same as solid wood since the end grain is very weak and prone to de-laminate when fasteners are put into it laterally. Most carpenters use various types of locking joint, lap joint or pocket screws to join plywood. check some of those joints out. they're not too difficult, and extremely useful.
@SowtheLand
5 жыл бұрын
my idea with this was to keep it really simple. No special joints or pocket holes. Not everyone has a picket hole jig or can do lap joints. I am showing people with minimal skill anyone can do this. But I know what you are saying. year and a half later still going strong. I appreciate the tip! thanks!
