Interesting video. In Utah we use 12" high x 24" wide footings with an insane amount of horizontal rebar (two rows) + vertical rebar every 3' connecting the footings to the poured concrete walls...and the walls are full of horizontal and vertical rebar all the way to the top. Every house in our area is built that way. Soil type? Earthquake protection? Interesting that you can use such thin footings and the footings aren't even connected to the walls with rebar.

No Rebar in Form Walls? In Toronto, need to have Rebar in walls before pouring and must be inspected first by Engineer( usually Engineer who worked on the Plans with the Architect).

Great videos Roman. This is very informational. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and expertise. Question for you...when the contractors are forming the concrete walls, do they insert reinforcing steel between the walls that are attached to the footing? I can see the pins that are attached to each side of the walls (@0:54) but not on the footings.

I know it is faster with concrete but drying time of concrete is going to reflect the moisture in the basement later on. Without proper inspection for every segment of house building will create lots of problem down the road. Ask your bricklayers Dusan and sons , he is from Europe, he will know better.

Roman, you're building this house to sell. Wouldn't have been cheaper to built blocks instead of poured in concrete ? What is the price difference there between blocks vs. poured in ?

liviu holca concrete is much fast and more popular with homeowners now ,i havnt used block basements for over 15years ,although there is nothing wrong with a block basement

+Roman Lewczuk . I agree. in locations with good Sandy fill, blocks work very well. a good block mason will get you to 1/16" in square. the air pockets in block make for a nice dry basement.

great question, it is quicker usually cheaper and usually I find that the concrete walls probably will last longer over time.

I know this is an older video but NEVER pour basement walls without rebar. This would have failed so many inspections in America!

its always better but its not required and not necessary as long as your on good solid ground, been doing it this way for over 30 years along with every other builder with no issues in our region and yes we do use rebar on many occasions and yes its always better.

Should not be placing perimeter tiles until wall forms are stripped and gone. Garage cut? You mean floor grade? Beam pockets are cut in? Pure amateurs here.
@romanlewczuk966
10 жыл бұрын
In the perfect situation you are right however, in many cases especially in infill lots where you do not have access to the rear and sides of the wall you have limited choices on when to install the weeping tile and stone. In this case it is much easier to install the weeping tile and place stone on it because the walls are not in your way. Garage cut means the wall elevation at the garage floor entrance. The garage cut is usually 5 or 6 inches below the garage floor--This elevation is shown on your grading plan. The steel beams usually sit inside the concrete wall so the top of the beam is flush with the top of the concrete so you have to make cavities in the wall which are referred to as beam pockets. My concrete wall installers are probably the best in our area and have done hundreds of walls for me and probably tens of thousands for other contractors so I am telling you right now they are definitely not amateurs. Thanks for watching and there may be more involved videos in the future. Stay tuned. Thanks.

It may be easier, but you cannot tell me that perimeter tile is not getting the sock ripped and tile crushed in spots. Let alone covered with concrete from the truck.I use a stone shooter that can hit the back of the job if needed. If he can't reach, real wall men will hump coal shovels or five gallon buckets. I have poured thousands of walls my self. We excavate, put in the footings, walls, and handle all of our water proofing in house. I have never heard of a Concrete wall installer. We call em Wall Men in the midwest, we might be guilty of Macho terms here though.

Plenty projects use separate contractors for the foundation and the drainage. Its not unusual at all. We recently worked on a project that had a separate contractor for excavation, one for the foundation, and another one that was there only for drainage
