Built this one over the weekend, turned out great. I also used the star you made but instead made 5 of them and hung them from the live oak in the front yard by light strings, cars are stopping and asking me where I got my stars from, haha. Thanks for the great how to videos.

I make mine with a piece of 3/4 " electrical conduit pipe. Drive a short piece of 1/2" cement rod in the ground. put a "S" hook in one end of pipe, use electrical tape to secure it in. Make a bunch of pegs from 1/4" rods bend one end into a hook in your vice. hook the female light string plug on the hook taped to the pipe Slide pipe over rod in ground . Angle light string down and out approx 2 ft from pipe base,. Use a peg to hold light string to ground. Run lights across the ground about a foot and a half from the first peg put another peg, run lights up and use a forked stick to hook lights to upper hook, run lights down to a peg on ground, a foot and a half from the second peg. then across the ground and up etc... With some adjusting you can get the male plug to end up at a peg at the ground. I have used as few as four strands from the top to ground and as many as 8 looks good either way. Takes about 20 min to make one this way. Use a flashing tree topper taped on at the top. Make shorter (cheaper) trees by cutting off the pipe. 6 foot works good too.

I am going to try to build your 10 foot mega tree this year and I was wondering what lights you used and where you got them? Are they LED? I really like your idea i also made the star that you posted thank you for the awesome ideas.

First Thank you for making this tutorial. I am striving to be Clark Griswald but I dont have the budget for it. I have ordered the GE Mr Christmas and will buy the lumber tomorrow. One question if you would when your are pulling the strands to attach to the lower circle is there a strand of each color bundled together at each 9 inch mark or does each mark get its own single color line and you alternate clear, red, clear, red Thanks again your stuff is awesome.

Can you link me to a GE Mr. Christmas? I have no idea what that is, but it sounds useful and important for a good display. A whole video on it would be nice.

How did you determine the circumference (length of each of your wood pieces) for the tree? I'm thinking about making my flagpole into a mega tree (I believe it's about 15 & 1/2 feet tall).

If you glue a small hunk of foam over the mic hole it will eliminate the wind noies

How long are the light strands that you are using? And do you remember how many power cords you had to use?

Another way to get the kinks out is you roll them up into a ball with the female connecter inside the ball... plug them in for 5 minutes.... walla kinks are out!
