Colin, thank you for your channel. I am 75 yoa and have always admired woodwork. Not hands on mind you. I saw your planter stand and thought I'd give it a try. That was about5 or 6 years ago. Since then I took the basic woodworking course from Steve (WWMM). I'm certainly not good enough to call myself a woodworker yet but I have come a long way and the trip has been wonderful. Thanks to you, Steve Ramsey, Steve Good, and everyone who makes wonderful instructional videos. Thank you all, too many to name, very very much. Lloyd

Nice potting bench! I really liked that you provided a drawing on the white board and explained in detail...it's so helpful to have the visual and your step by step instruction. Thanks for taking the time to share!

Really nice gardening stand. One thing you could also do is with the removable top, have a solid one that you can swap back and forth between the two.

Seeing this and appreciating your instruction 6 years later -- the classics carry on. Might be an excuse to buy a Kreg jig, or use biscuits or 100 other ways to join a simple shelf. Note: I would/will round-over the bottom of the legs to keep them from tearing out in use. I'll probablt find and attach some plastic as a pad under each leg to prevent rot. Good work, thanks

Hi Dabin, I do finish outdoor projects, but have not done anything with this one. Getting some ideas from some of our subscribers, like using clear coat.

Hi Colin that's a brilliant potting bench, good job my wife wasn't watching or else it would be quickly on the 'to do list'. I saw that you used 2 of those plastic trays, could you fit 3 if there's room? or would you have to make the bench wider to fit. Thanks. Barry from England.
@knecht105
10 жыл бұрын
Barry Roberts Yes, the one I made will fit 3 of the trays, but there is not as much room to get them in and out so I only left it with 2 trays, but I am told by the "gardener" that not really a need to take them out, so putting 3 in might be a good idea. Colin

Nice little bench there. I like how you did not use glue. I wouldn't use glue on this type of project either, knowing in time boards will probably need to be replaced regardless of species or finish.

great project I would suggest using deck screws next time you build one. Those drywall screws are going to rust and make black streaks on the wood.
@knecht105

Actually, those are all either outdoor Kreg screws or deck screws. I rarely use drywall screws, they always seem to snap on me, guess I drive them in too hard ... thanks for the comment, good one

Another great video Colin. Keep your" it's a beautiful spring day " comments to yourself buddy. I have another 3' of snow that has to melt before I can even see the outline of my raised beds. (just kidding of course) Yes that means I have lots of time to build one of these. It's going to be quite awhile before we can plant our Veggies and it might not be enough time for them this year. Cheers Colin. Derek

LOL yep. It's melting extremely fast though. Fishing opens tomorrow but I'm thinking the worms would die from frost bite since every brook is pretty much still frozen solid. Good old times Canadian winter. Cheers Colin. Derek

Colin, nice project. Build one a little more detailed for my Mrs 2 summers ago and it has 3 coats of water seal on it and it still looks real good. I used all reclaimed PT and cedar which really helps. You have to do something about your audio that squealing high pitch noise is REALLY annoying.
@knecht105
10 жыл бұрын
Hmm ... so what did you use for water sealant?? ... love to hear about the reclaimed, great idea. Thanks for the tip on the audio, I am not aware of that will have to check it out ...thanks a bunch on that.

Great gardening table. Where did you get those trays? I would like to build the exact same table as this one. But, I have no idea where to find this trays.
@knecht105

***** Those are just the trays that are sold at the gardening store for starting bedding plants ... or at least the trays that sit under the little plastic pots. Quite inexpensive too, and they work great

I'm a layman on that, so I'm wondering what's up with the difference in screw heads... why is the square, 6-point-stars, hexagonal so popular now? the old philips and slotted screws are not used anymore? I remember when Airbus tried to implement the pin-wheel one... Well, thanks.
@knecht105
10 жыл бұрын
Well, the difference in the screws is mainly that you can get more torque on square and star heads than the old phillips, but they are all available so I always advocate, use what works best for you :)

It would be even nicer if you took a couple of more minutes and put some boards along the back with cup hooks screwed in for tools to hang on. It would be so much more functional that way, Nice easy project, thanks.
