Hi everyone! I have wanted to build one of these for a while now, firstly because I wanted to see if I could, and secondly, because I wanted an simple solution for saddling my horses. I wanted to have the saddle area to be protected, so my saddle will not get scratched, or worse, a splinter!
I took scrap landscaping timbers that I had lying around, and some carpet remnant, along with a scrap of 2 x 4 wood, and a hook with a long back.(I got the hook at the Big R, it's like a tractor supply store) and a screw eye. I used 2 decking screws, 1 was 1 5/8", and 1 was 3" long.
I cut the landscaping timber to 24" long, and then covered it with scrap carpet. Then I put the hook on, and added the 2 x 4 scrap to the back of the saddle rack so it would sit at a 90 degree angle when it was hung up.
Then I put the screw eye into my hitching post, and it was ready to use!
This does make it easier to have my saddle close by when I am tacking up, and the bonus is it does not take up much space!
I am going to make several of these to hang in my tack room so they will give me more space in my tiny tack room!
