@TheDriver713 Not necessarily. In Germany for instance, there are special rules for self made cages, which are usually much harder than a certificated cage. Go to your countries Motorsport Association website for informations. My recommendation: If there is a certificated cage for your car, take that one. You will save time, nerves and probably weight.
@Duckyistrippin

@TheDriver713 All this guy bought was a bunch of pre bent tubes. A cage isnt certified until after it is installed and welded. The design has to meet certain requirements, as well as the diameter, wall thickness and type of tubing used. If you have a tube bender, there is absolutely no reason to pay someone else to prebend it for you. Then again, if you are asking this question its likely you dont have the resources at your disposal to build the cage yourself.

What an awesome build! Well put together video, too. Out of interest, what engine was that which was swapped into it? I am assuming it was a higher capacity engine from the same engine family...?

They spent more time in the video focusing on stickers than the drivetrain or anything to that line... therefore it has been proven that stickers add horsepower.

I have a few questions: 1 - instead of taking the roof off, wouldnt it be easier to drill holes through the floor so you could sink in the rollcage and weld it ? or did you want to get rid of the sunroof as well ? 2 - wiring was for stock gauges ? 3 - why did you keep the inner skin of the doors ? 4 - didnt you scrape off the under seal ? Sorry for asking, you may have done more that arent shown in the video. Great video which shows pretty much the process :)
@dedasdude

since the roll cage will be becoming the stress enduring part, it doesnt make sense to leave all the heavy steel work in the roof portion that used to give stiffness to the chassis since the roll cage will be doing that part now. also panels are pretty cheap i guess so taking the roof off was better to fit the rollcage which had been made outside the car/ is possibly from another car.

@TheDriver713 if you are in america a roll cage will not fail inspection.. before you make a cage look at either the SCCA, or NHRA for the specs if you plan to race. DO NOT BUY a cage. typically speaking the ones you can buy are worthless...

@TheSelfIndulgence the e30´s are very popular rally cars here in Germany, especially the 318. There´s a cup - w w w . rg318is.de - you contact them if you want to build a rally car. Dont waste they time with street cars. Audi is seldom. Maybe w w w .4-rallye.de can help. Again only for rally cars.
