This video demonstration shows how to design and build a simple circuit to illuminate an LED. The circuit is built on a breadboard, and uses a 9 V battery, red LED and 470 ohm resistor.
For many people just starting out in the exciting world of electronics, connecting an LED to a battery (via a resistor) is the first circuit they build. It only takes a minute or so to assemble on a breadboard and you can see straight away whether the circuit works or not. But as well as being a simple circuit to build, it introduces us to Ohm's Law, which is extremely important when designing electric circuits because it shows the relationship between voltage, current and resistance.

Quick Start Workbooks are easy-to-follow, tutorial-style books that are designed to give you hands-on experience of using a particular software application or technology, for example, electronics. As well as the books themselves, there is an accompanying website (www.quickstartworkbook.com) that contains sample videos and in some cases downloadable files, which correspond to chapters in the books.
The combination of a book and a website means that you not only have access to step-by-step instructions on how to carry out a particular task, but also videos that show what the task should look like or achieve if carried out successfully. All this provides you with the full package to quickly get you up to speed with the task at hand.
