Many cities near bodies of water, be it rivers, oceans, and lakes, use retaining walls to shape the waterfront edges for a host of reasons. Miami is certainly no exception. Whether to retain from erosion, hold a waterfront building or structure, or simply offer for walking along the shoreline, this type of infrastructure is prevalent and worth tackling with LEGO bricks. One such style is the corrugated metal retaining wall. This is also seen in construction projects that require a controlled area of aggregate on which to build bridge pilings.
This video shows how to build a 16 stud long section of perfectly symmetric corrugated sea wall. This construction makes heavy use of SNOT (Studs Not On Top) techniques on both sides and also offers a glimpse at using complementary shades of colors to create a weathered effect. What is neat is that since a complete section of 5 columns lines up with 16 studs, you can contain this construction to entire baseplates, making this a modular standard.
My LEGO city builds will take a more aquatic direction going forward. Stay tuned to see what is to come. (Be sure you're subscribed here to be the first to know when the updates drop!)
