@@Chris45332 yes i started. Block layer took forever but they are roofing the house now. Have lots of tips, go with bungalow instead of two storey. Also a big one i have for you is make your utility plenty big. I ended up building an out house attached to the gable end of the house where the utility is just to carry all the plumbing appliances as it takes up a pile of room in utility, and even with all that space freed up now in utilty its still going to be tight. Where and what are you building?

@@jericho9653 Hello! Thank you so much. I'm on the East Coast. Yes I went with single story pitched roof, mainly because I thought 2 stories would be really stressful . Utility is small... I will redesign it now. I'm at early stages, but hope to get all my quotations done in the next couple of weeks. It takes forever just getting prices!

@foundationgood123 hi Chris how long after you poured concrete until you started the build? I'm having my concrete layed on Friday. And start the build following day on the Saturday. They said they can do this by adding a additive to the concrete to speed up process of it going off. Thanks

Hay I dont know if your going see this comment Chris Longhurst but hopfully you might. I was woundering what your thoughts were on these fast track brick laying course thay do ? there any thing from 1 week basic to 10 weeks long types that so say are very in depth. do you think in your expeirance its possible to get a decent amount of training within 10 weeks ? like to be able to have some ablitity to go to a site and work stright off after training ? i woundered have you met anyone whos done a course like this and thay were still terrible at brick laying and thay found it wasnt worth it ? would you think going the aprentiship rout is really the only sound way to learn. if an aprentiship is an option is there any benifit to be gained from these fast track courses as a secound choive of being trained ? would apreciate hearing any thoughts you might have on this subject. Thanks

Question what are benefits of using the foundations blocks over having more concrete in the footing upto a greater height ?

Less labour involved if it is what we call "trench filled" ie more concrete in the foundations!

@@foundationgood123 sorry I think I phrased my question poorly . Instead of laying the trench blocks could you just have the concrete poured to the top height of the trench blocks? In my mind that would be less labour but I must be missing a trick 🙂

How long do you leave concrete to set fully before laying on them? also what grade concrete do you recommend for foundations? Thinking of tackling extension myself.
@TheAudiostud
5 жыл бұрын
Phil Snow allow the concrete to cure for one day before constructing your deck or placing heavy objects on the footing, that’s If you’ve You used a standard mix Wait at least 3 days to begin construction as a rule of thumb foundations have reached 90-95% strength after 24hrs if all the correct procedures have been followed. The height of brickwork in a day depends of various factors but if you’re working to a standard then it’s 20 courses or 5 ft which is the norm for facing bricks

I'm not a builder, so excuse my ignorance. I thought foundations were supposed to be, 1 meter deep? Or am I wrong. Also, isn't that steel bar supposed to be running through it as a strengthener so it doesn't crack? I'm planning on doing an extension on garage myself, but my foundation will be reinforced and deeper.
@foundationgood123
3 жыл бұрын
Its a metre to the top of the concrete and the foundations don’t need reinforced mesh as the ground is clay. However, if the ground is poor thenthe inspector may well ask tha reinforcements be added. you may be getting confused with “Trench Fill” concrete foundations which are optional ie up to you, again not necessary to the build!

This may sound like a daft question but here it goes: I couldn't help but notice the water when the footings were dug and now that the footings have dried, the water is still there....will this have an effect on the foundations/blocks below ground? Any info on this would be most welcomed.
@Mr_Sh1tcoin
4 жыл бұрын
Nacho Vidal blocks can rot out over years if theyre always saturated. Plus lime in concrete reacts with water over the years so it becomes brittle. Im talking years and years now being saturated and not drying and not just a bit of water.

Nice job but old fashioned way of working.in and around london all domestic extensions are concreted solid allowing for I concrete block and 2 courses of face brick below d.p.c.not worth the time and effort doing all that brickwork below ground total waste of time materials and labour .much easier to mark out the walls 15 inches below existing d.p.c.just scratch it out on the concrete.

Mony Torris building regulations in london specify min of 1 metre solid concrete foundations for domestic extentions the local authority building control will acsept nothing less.as for polish corner cutters I hate them as well the building trade in London was run here by the irish and the northerners 30/ 40 years ago I'm a 2nd generation irish northerner from leeds who's been here 40 years and I am city guilds qualified bricklayer in nearly 64 and still getting work been bullied of quite a few jobs here over the years northern leeds suporters here were not liked or wanted especially around east London but I haven't had a labourer work with me who speaks English for many years.
