That's insane. It literally just took me over an hour to build, with my wife. I built furniture commercially for 8 years too. The plastic corner were so stiff that the glass wouldn't slide into it. That was what took the longest. Not to mention, none of my glass pieces had a 1 on it so I had to guess which was the back and which was the door.

First one took me 3 hours. first mistake was I thought it was a good idea to remove the stickers on the glass sides. I contemplated taking the remaining two back. Also, how does your glass go into the plastic spines so easily? That's the most difficult part for me. Also one of the top screws will not catch even though it looks like I have enough room for the bolts to make it through to the top wooden shelf.

The recent models are made different now and much much harder to put together. I've put together almost 50 pieces of furniture in the last 20 years and this has to be the hardest one I ever did. Taking almost 2 hours and needing a 2nd person to help. The older Detolfs were much easier (like in this video) and also half the price. New ones are cheaply made and twice the price.
@KylePeterson1980
Жыл бұрын

@foxglove9

@KylePeterson1980 The metal H-ladder frames are very thin and mostly come bent in the box, so you need to straighten those out best you can. Metal screws that tighten on the ladder frame are cheaply threaded or improperly threaded leaving it difficult to tighten or fully tighten. Plastic feet don't fit over the screws anymore leaving all 4 feet at uneven heights. Glass is thinner, so to make up for the gaps in the upper and lower wood panels glass slots they give you plastic spacers to fit in there. Stickers very difficult to remove. Some glass panels showing imperfections (scratches) out of the box. The vertical plastic pieces that hold the 3 panels of glass together is a super rigid translucent plastic made too tight and next to impossible to fit into the glass. I have plastic stress marks on all my panels from popping the glass into those pieces. This was the hardest part of the install. Holes for the magnet pieces in the wood are about a millimeter smaller. Doors are super difficult to align now. Either hits the top or bottom panels or don't fully reach both top and bottom panels correctly. Glass much easier to break from over tightening (google this for some horror stories) I addressed these issues with Ikea and they offered for me to return the 3 Detolfs I already put together. lol. I actually took apart my old Detolf and put it back together just to make sure I wasn't going crazy not remembering how difficult it was to put it together. The old was was super easy to assemble, very much like you did in the video.
