I've copied the model from the tutorial into Studio, and without the wheels, it has 303 parts. However, the one listed on the website has 294 parts (without the wheels). I've also noticed that the chassis is assembled slightly different between the versions. Which one should I build, the tutorial one or the one on the website?
@WoodenToby
2 жыл бұрын
I'd recommend the Rebrickable one due to the reduced part count. I simplified the chassis since the instructions are for an unmotorized build.

Thank you so much for making this available in Studio. I have all the pieces ordered and am trying to get a handle on the build process. How does one get to the start to build screen with nothing on it and a light colored background so as to be able to see the dark pieces? Is there a way to see the step assembly process like Legos does their instruction? My 6 year old Grandson and I would like to build this as well as Percy. Thank you again for any help.

Hello again, glad you're having a go at building the designs! I just recently learned how to make instructions like Lego includes with their sets, and I'd be happy to put together instructions for Thomas this weekend. I should be able to release instructions and a parts list for Percy before too long as well. I recently slightly modified his construction, and I'm waiting for some parts to arrive so I can reassemble him in real life first.

@WoodenToby

@@jimkuhlman8151 How did you set up the order? I like to add all the parts to a wanted list in BrickLink (the "Buy Parts" tab in Rebrickable has a button that lets you do that). Then you can use BrickLink's "Buy Wanted Lists" feature to find a combo of stores to buy from. You can apply different filters such as limiting to stores in the US, then BrickLink can auto-select the least expensive combo of stores. I find that this method of buying parts gives you the most control and gets you the best deal. There's definitely a bit of a learning curve to using all these Lego websites and programs, but most of them have plenty of tutorials and videos online to learn how to use all their features.

Hi! I put together instructions and added the pdf to the Rebrickable page. Let me know how the build process goes when you get to that point. Just a heads up since you mentioned you're building with your grandson, some of the steps are a little challenging, and you have to be mindful about lining up parts correctly and not applying too much pressure on half-built structures. The model is pretty sturdy once it's completely assembled.

The Studio file is not currently publicly available, but I'm working on posting it to an online platform so it can be. Getting the wheels in Studio is a little complicated. You have to download them from the "LDraw" tab of the Big Ben Bricks website, import them into the BrickLink PartDesigner program, and export them so they can be accessed in Studio. You might have to do some Google searches along the way to learn how to use PartDesigner.
A complementary program called PartDesigner allows you to import and configure 3D object files for parts, then export them to Studio, which I did for the BBB wheels. Downloading a Studio file that contains the wheels would also bring them into the program.

Hello, were you working from the PDF instructions on Rebrickable? Installing the Circuit Cubes to motorize the model does require a few additional parts/modifications. When you say the wheels spin in place, do you mean the wheels just roll freely, or is the motor turning the wheels but not going anywhere?
