Is the there different binding sizes. I come from snowboarding for and snowboards have different sizes based on your shoe size. Is this true with skis as well? I'm 6ft.4in. With a size 13 shoe

Drew L hey there! No there is no sizing to deal with. The bindings will be mounted in accordance to the boot sole length. If you buy used skis, the bindings may have to be remounted so the boots can fit.

How much does it really matter what Alpine binding you get? Is there much difference between a Marker Squire 11 and Griffon 13 or a Tyrolia Attack 11 and 13 or various look bindings? My DIN is currently set to 8.5 so it's within the range of the cheaper model. Are they less durable, heavier, less stable or solid when skiing, provide a difference in feel or are more difficult to use in powder etc? What is the difference in the cheap vs expensive apart from the DIN rating?
@MountainVibes

The biggest differences within a brand's line (squire vs griffon) is the lower one is generally lighter with more plastic and will not have the best energy transmission. Where a higher end binding will be reinforced better with heavier duty plastics, or some metal. This transfers energy better. When looking between brands, Tyrolia vs Marker, each brand will offer different features. Marker for example has their ID sole, which is compatible with pretty much any boot. Where Tyrolia will only be compatible with Grip Walk, and standard ISO soles. Cheaper bindings may break easier if you're hard on your gear, but it rarely happens. At least from what I've seen. Higher end springs will lock you in longer than as they have greater 'elastic travel'. Personally I find Maker a bit harder to click in to, where Look and Tyrolia are much easier. I prefer the later two, because its easier to get back in my skis on uneven snow. Hope this helps.

You also want to be near the middle of the binding's range, so for an 11 binding, that might be best for someone from 4-8 DIN, a 13 binding might work best for someone 4.5 - 9, etc. At 8.5, you are getting into the upper range for an 11 binding, if you want the binding to hold up for several years/hundreds of ski days. BTW, I use a Marker Griffon 13 and my DIN is 6.5

Hey! I finally decided I’m gonna get the Volkl Kenjo. I love skiing in steep slopes with moguls but still ski fast in piste, and I sometimes go into powder. Do you think the Marker Griffon 13 ID 90mm will be good for this type of skiing? Thanks!!!

I'm looking at getting a set of LOOK bindings. The main reason is because I have a left knee that tends to hurt after a while and wondering with the side to side motion (pivot?) would help reduce knee injury and soreness. Given I also own two LOOK bicycles (Road and an MTB) and love them so much I kinda figured the LOOK bindings would be pretty darn good? Whats the difference between Pivot 14 and 18?
@MountainVibes
5 жыл бұрын
Hey there. The actual pivot motion probably won't help your sore knees. That can be a strengthening/ technique issue. It does help prevent knee injuries by allowing more elasticity, and making it easier to the boots to release with out blowing an ACL/ MCL. Aside form the 14 and 18 having different din ranges, the 18 is made of metal. This does beef it up, but adds weight to it. Unless you're going big in the park, or hucking cliffs, stick with the 14.

@MountainVibes

You may have problems with the binding not functioning properly, if they are quite old. By that I mean, they either may not release when they're supposed to, or release when not to. Ski bindings cannot be serviced (ie change springs). I'd suggest taking them to a shop and ask if the bindings are safe to use. They may suggest buying a new pair of bindings.

What about pivot bindings
@MountainVibes
5 жыл бұрын
What about them? The heel piece has a 360 degree turn table, which allows the skier to release diagonally. Mostly used by free ride and freestyle skiers, or those with knee issues. They are a pain to get back into once you fall out of them though.

I’m a 5’7” 210 lb intermediate skier who primarily skis groomers and occasionally park... I have a pair of Line TW pro skis and I’m thinking of mounting Look NX 11 bindings on them. Will those bindings work ok for me?
@MountainVibes
6 жыл бұрын
Hey there, thanks for the question. They will work, but if you're doing a bit of park, I would recommend going with the NX 12. The toe piece is a bit beefier and has an anti-friction device too. If you're trying to keep costs down, you can go with the NX 11.
@DreamBigPlayBigger

Mountain Vibes thanks for the quick reply... I read that the Look NX 11 Bindings do have an anti friction device... I’m trying to keep the cost down, and I can get them for $88 with free shipping and no tax. The park i plan on doing would be minimal... small jumps and rollers, butters/olli’s... no rails or extreme park. Thoughts?

The 11 do kinda have one, the 12's have an AFD that moves. The 11's will work fine for you. For 88 bucks??? New? If so, go for it. If they're used, I'd be weary about it.

@MountainVibes
4 жыл бұрын
I'm not too familiar with the ski. Based on what I've seen online, with it being a 88mm youth ski, a Look nx10 should work. I only say this because some youth skis aren't a thick as adult skis, so the screws on adult bindings tend to dimple the bases. The NX 10 is a youth binding, so you should be able to use that no problem. They come with an 83mm break, which sits wider than you'd think, and not have any issues with the breaks clearing the width of the ski. Hope this helps.

I just picked up a new pair of On3p Magnus skis, which are 90mm underfoot. I am looking for marker griffon bindings, but I’m not sure what the different widths mean. I am just wondering what the brake width would need to be so they fit right before I order my bindings.
@MountainVibes
6 жыл бұрын
Carter Meyer hey there! Thanks for the question. The widths are what the are in millimeters. So for your skis, you would pick the 90mm break width. You’ll have to bend them out a bit to ensure they release properly. The next size up is 110mm, which will be way too big for your skis. Have a great season, and enjoy your new skis.

Can the bindings be to big and not be able to be mounted on my skis if they are to skinny
@MountainVibes
Жыл бұрын
It’s rare, but that could happen. In most cases, narrow skis are paired with a binding that goes into a plate or track that is pre mounted on the skis. Shops will have a variety of binding brands which come in different shapes, and widths that can be free drilled into skis. I would suggest going to your local ski shop and have that sorted out.

Can you give any advice? i.imgur.com/qGhvfAj.jpg EDIT: I found some more info www.coloradodiscountskis.com/store/product6739.html The RDX style plate on this ski must be drilled to mount FreeFlex EVO bindings. How do I know if they match my boot and my ski?
@MountainVibes
5 жыл бұрын
It's gonna be a binding made by Tyrolia to start. Odd that the skis weren't sold with the bindings. I'd suggest taking them to a ski shop that deals with race gear, or a Head dealer. They should be able to order the proper binding for you. They will install the bindings to match the length for your boot.

Do all bindings fit on all Skis?
@MountainVibes
5 жыл бұрын
For the most part, yes. If the ski is flat, you can have anything drilled onto them. The main thing is having breaks that will fit over the skis. If skis come with a track/ integrated binding system, you're stuck with that binding.
@andrewdiamond2697
Жыл бұрын
No. you have to match a slightly higher brake width to the ski waist width. If the brakes are too narrow, they won't stop the skis in a release. If they are too wide, you might drag the brake into the snow while carving.

Not 100% sure. Maybe the forward pressure is too tight, forcing the toe to split more. But, it should split a bit, but that seems like a lot.

Can you ride park on some heavier skitour bindings Or should I just buy used skis for park only
@MountainVibes
3 жыл бұрын
Well, I won't say you can't, but it won't be the best experience. If you're using a frame binding, it will be considerably heavier, and you will lack ski feel. Mainly because you'll be sitting higher off your skis, as well, the frame doesn't allow the ski to flex as freely, compared to having a 'gap' from traditional mounted bindings. If you're serious about hitting the park, go with a cheap park setup. Good luck!

It depends on the manufacture. Generally, bindings are really only serviceable for 5-7 years. They do this because one can’t maintain the springs in the bindings.

Skis do eventually wear out. Meaning they will loose their snap, or pop. Skis shapes have changed a lot over the last 15 years. Most shops would recommend getting a new pair anyways.
@vimto9225

Hi what is the difference between 110mm and 90mm
@MountainVibes
5 жыл бұрын
20mm. haha. It's the width of the breaks for the ski bindings. Ideally you want you breaks to sit right over the skis. If too wide, the breaks may catch on stuff, and if too narrow, they may not flip down at all. look to see how wide your skis are before buying.
