Well, it all got done, and many thanks to Project Daily. I had a couple of points to say about it, in my case (not everyone is as clumsy or absent-minded as I am, but I'm 72 so please forgive). In mounting the cable I found out the hard way you need to first attach to the master end, though the instructions came with it said to attach first to the slave. There's not enough slack to position the coupling at the master if you attach the slave first. Attaching the coupling to the master is very difficult, at least for me. I had to remove the covering of the harness, move the harness, and use very long nose pliers to hold the cable in place while jamming my fingers in to start the threads. I found that putting in the fitment first then the cable worked best. To get the fitment in place is risky since if you drop it, it will go into the Twilight Zone (the Z car version of Hell), which is why I have a series of long magnet wands. In order to get the fitment SAFELY on the master, I used a small allen wrench with the short end slipped into the free end of the fitment fitment, then approached the master using the wrench as a pivot point. This way the fitment can't fall in. I should say that there's less room for the fingers in the area of the master fitment connection than appears to be, so it took me quite awhile to get things in place. Once the fitment was in, I needed some extra long needle nose pliers to grip the cable and hold it in position while with fingers I was (barely) able to start the threads. It's not pleasant, but is possible. Tightening was quite easy using 13mm for the fitment, and an 11mm for the cable nut. If you don't have 11mm you will need an adjustable wrench, so come prepared with an 11mm if you can, not everyone has one of them. Next thing, attaching the cable to the slave, be SURE you save the copper washer that came on the end of the old cable where it attaches to the slave. Nobody sends you one with the new cable, and without it, you cannot do the job, it will leak. The slave depends on a crush washer, while the master does not. Typical Z car making your life miserable (except when driving, of course). I left the damn dampener on the car with the old tubing because at 72, the less time under that car on my back the better. Maybe at 90 I will take it off? Let's hope. Again thanks to Project Daily, I got one of the vacuum bleeding tools, for only about 18 bucks delivered, and it worked great. I just attached it, filled the reservoir, opened the drain, gave one push on the clutch pedal, then began vacuuming. I had to refill the reservoir just once, and removed about an ounce or two of fluid, but it seemed to have bubbles no matter what, so I closed the bleed valve and checked, the pedal was fine. I then refilled the reservoir. Overnight the pedal seems to have firmed up about half an inch to just right. I have had this 84 from 1990 or so, and it's my favorite road machine. The clutch feels the same with a very slightly improved grab, but not like a racing clutch or anything; it's still very drivable. My brake master cylinder got changed out recently, and they used a new one from a 90 Z. It is larger in diameter so gives a slightly more grabby braking at low speed and slightly less grabby at high speed, due to the lower mechanical advantage of the larger piston area. That's good, because the old one locked the wheels once or twice when high speed braking. Z lovers, enjoy! update: just took for a drive, and it's a better clutch, this upgrade is worth it. It add some sportiness and responsiveness to the pedal and makes the shifting cleaner, also less foot motion needed. 300zx 80's series has so much luxury that adding some sportiness here and there helps it in my opinion. It's worth the work.

Many thanks, my old 84 300zx turbo finally needed the slave, I replaced just it, but then the hose started a real slow leak, so now going to bypass the dampener and then all should be well. The master was replaced 20k miles ago and is still fine. Great video!

Running the line on my 84 300zx turbo was not easy, the hydraulic lines to tie it onto were set way down deep, and I had to resort to 24 inch long zip ties to reach down, which meant I had to take off and buy those while in middle of the job. For my car, I found that short zip ties weren't reachable as they appear to be in the author's car shown nearer to the top. I burnt a finger working on the zip ties while running the line. As far as length, I bought the same yellow line as the author, it is 52 inches long. It is the right length, so be sure yours is also 52 inches and you should have no trouble. It took me a long time to run the line in my particular car, then check for length, so it got late and I had to put off connecting and bleeding till tomorrow. I still think this is the right way to go, and so far, so good.

FYI. You dont use Teflon tape on ANY fitting other than National Pipe Threads because they are tapered and BTW its not for sealing its a lubricant so you can tighten the pipe for seal. Your seal comes from the inverted flair bump in the master cylinder. Cracks me up to see Teflon tape on every fitting. Thank you for sharing the kit info

Works pretty well for me to seal. I realize it’s not techanicly correct but it’s always worked well for me

Awesome video. Haveing to change my master cylinder on my 86, is there any parts of the dash you needed to remove to get to the pin on the pedal? Mine has been sitting for so long, and im afraid if i need to, then ill have to replace the dash, and thats over a grand to get lol. I would rather not do that just yet

I heard of this mod years ago but this is the first time I've seen it implemented. However, I don't see the benefit of doing this since the damper's intended purpose is to soften the response of the clutch engagement/disengagement. If you put a stage I or II clutch in, it wouldn't even be noticeable.
@ProjectDaily

Well that's half of it , it simplifies the clutch system and makes it way easier to bleed.

That may be so, and working on a Z31 has never been a walk in the park. But that damper also reduces vibration coming from the engine which travels all the way down through your drive line. It may seem like an insignificant piece of hardware, but If you care about longevity of your parts, I'd leave it in. Nice demonstration of removing the master cylinder and slave cylinder though. I also liked the video about the compression test since I will be testing compression testing a couple of VG30ETs soon. It seems AutoZone may be good for something after all.

+Daniel Pearce I'm confused , I don't see how the hydro dampener has anything to do with engine vibrations . It's just hooked up in-line with the slave and master clutch cylinders. What your describing almost sounds like a engine or motor mount/dampener
