Great video Fox Shop. I assume since you changed the cal from 972 minus 810= 162 that 1 MPH would be equal to 16. My speedometer reads 2 MPH fast. I just replaced my 3.55 axle with a 2.73 and thought my speedometer was going to be way off. When I took it for a test drive yesterday it read the same as with the 3.55's. The original 302 got 10 or less MPG. I put a 4BT Cummins diesel in it and get 25 MPG at 55 MPH. 70 MPH on IS-70 hurts the mileage that's why I changed axles and am hoping for closer to 30 MPG.

+Dana Palmer Hey, thanks for watching and commenting, I appreciate it!! My 302 used to get around 18... that was driving to and from work about 35 miles away... to be honest I have no idea what it gets now, but seems to be about the same. Her comfortable speed is 72mph, will run down the road all day at that speed. I have 3.55 gears, and even with 35" tires she runs strong. I honestly cant tell any difference from when I had 31" tires on it. She has always run strong... maybe I just got a good one I dunno. LOL I see some people really complain about their 302 not having any power, but I cant say I have any complaints. Keep coming back!!! Should have some good vids coming now that I am starting to get back in the groove of things. LOL

dana, I put a 4bt & 5 speed in an expedition and get 22-25 around home with stock gearing. took it on a trip averaged 76 mpg got 21 mpg. I also have a ranger I installed a 4bt & 5 speed. started with 3.73 gears & swapped to 3.08 with virtually no noticeable change in mileage, it gets around 31 mpg on a trip or around home.

I'd leave it, thats about as close as you can get changing the speed gears in the transmission on other models but my math say about 830 but why? next set of tires you buy might be a hair different rotation per mile & be spot on...

+Andy Fromm Yep, I left it... a mph or 2 doesn't really bother me, and like you said, don't want to use up all the attempts over that little amount.

ive heard all speedometers have up to a 7% inaccurate ness to them so 2mph off isnt bad
@TheFoxShop
9 жыл бұрын
+bluebeast1000 I haven't heard that before. That's 4.2mph at 60mph. Seems like that would be on the high end of being off but I don't know for sure. I imagine most are off just a bit. Heck your tire pressure may even be enough to throw it off a little bit I imagine. But no, 2mph isn't bad, I can handle that. LOL I actually really like running that speedo app on my phone, put it on my phone holder on my windshield, quick glance over and I got the time and speed, plus when I'm driving my hand is usually covering my line of sight to my speedo. LOL My truck is most comfortable crusing down the interstate at 72mph, just seems to be where everything is perfect, and easy to do with that digital app on my phone. LOL Thanks for watching, lots more coming!

Yes Bluebeast is correct. because up until recently its been almost impossible to (Cheaply) make a vehicle with a speedo that is accurate across its entire range, an international standard was adopted I think back in the 60's or 70's. Anyway, basically they are all designed to be the most accurate at between 20 and 40 MPH with 30 being the sweet spot. However, that agreement also requires that any inaccuracy is biased toward over estimating speed rather than under. This also helps to compensate for tire wear which alters the speedo's ratio.

Do you know the current mpg with the lift and the 35s by any chance?
@TheFoxShop
9 жыл бұрын
No I sure don't.. Speedometer and odometer have been off so haven't checked it...but seems to be about how it's always been...So somewhere around 15 mpg. With the larger tires, gotta remember it basically changes your axle ratio unless you change your gears, and I do quite a vid of highway travel, so the engine isn't revving at the same rpm as before at the same speed, the engine rpm is lower so would thing better mileage on highway actually....but the lift and aerodynamics probably cancel that out LOL... I'll try to calculate that next time I fill up.

Fix that airbag code next? I have a 97 F-150, it reads about 7 mph slower than I'm actually going at 65. Got me a speeding ticket once. Know the procedure to calibrate that as well? My dash is the old style, all analog and no digital odo.

LOL. No on the air bag. Been that way for fifteen years or so. Was told there is a clock sitting inside the steering that's broke...So airbag light flashes and cruise doesn't work...never use cruise do don't even think about it anymore. A far add the older Speedo problem, I think you have to replace a small plastic gear attached to the rearend, just costs a few bucks.

The Fox Shop Thanks! That spring is super easy to change actually. I've done about 10 of them, lol. You probably know this, but that flashing is actually the code. Just count the flashes in a certain way. It's funny actually, on my truck the tire size is only one or two sizes up from spec, and the speedo is that far off. Seems weird to me.

***Classified*** Actually I didn't know that! How do you change the spring? Air bags scare me, don't like messing around them. if I could fix that issue I would do it...oh yeah, it also keeps my horn from working. That would be nice to have again. Guess its not that important to me since I have never really looked into how to fix it LOL..but wouldn't mind if its pretty simple...might make a good vid also.

The Fox Shop I changed the spring (which is actually just a plastic circle thing looking thing with wires in it) on my minivan and chevy truck. Just pull the wheel, and it's right there. I've disconnected many airbags without issue, just pull the battery and let it sit for about 10 mins if it scares you. This forum will probably help a lot www.fullsizebronco.com/forum/showthread.php?t=62939 I'd read the codes again just to make sure it is a clockspring failure, but when they fail, the horn and any buttons on the wheel won't work either, just like you're experiencing. Since it's your first spring replacement, it might take an hour or two. I've done it in less though, just from doing it so many times on my van. Mark your wheel and your steering column shaft with a marker or something, just so you get the wheel back on straight when you go to put it back on.

1972FordF150 LOL, yeah same here, so decided I probably got it about as close as most vehicles. I have a Tahoe and I know that its off 1 or 2 mph... Sure a lot better than being 10 slow. Even knowing that its off that much, just kinda messes with your head.

Mine has a minor speedo wobble below 20 MPH. Not too bad for a 234,000 mile speedo cable and speedometer though lol. Works a lot better than some of the others I've seen with less miles. I also find it very stupid how Ford only gives you 6 tries then locks you out for good. Wonder why they did that?
@TheFoxShop

1972FordF150 well just guessing, but imagine it has something to do with, if you set it extreme, your odometer would register way lower than your actual miles..so you could have taken it in for warranty when yu actually had 100,000miles on it or something. This way if you have to change it back and forth, you couldn't get away with that to many times. I dunno, but sure its something like that.
