In this example we are tracking product clicks for the Enhanced Ecommerce reports.
We will show how to capture dataLayer events in GTM hoping to answer any questions you might have.
We are looking at the listing of an eCommerce test site. We are using the GTM preview mode, the browser console and the GA Debugger extension.
Also, we use GTM Sonar to block the default behaviour of the clicks because we want to remain on the page.
The capture process contains two steps: trigger and tag.
The trigger is a custom event which captures the dataLayer. The tag is an Universal Analytics event that uses dataLayer for Enhanced Ecommerce.
If you have EE set up in the GA settings variable, there is no need to override the options on the tag.
After you preview the changes and perform a test, head over to the Google Analytics Real Time report to check for the Events.
