my second boat. current one bought new. When boat shopping I felt the Suzuki was a better motor BUT, in the past on other things learned a lesson. That being said I went with the Yamaha because thats what virtually everyone else is using on the Southern Gulf Coast in USA. I figured I should get Yamaha because EVERY shop around here almost are certified techs on Yamaha so I could take the boat most anywhere to get serviced but concerned I'd not have many choices to where to take a Suzuki to get serviced

working on outboards is pretty easy, everything is right there and east to access. If you can work on cars in cramped conditions then you can work on outboards. The technician colour coding things yellow is just to line their pockets, servicing is where they make the money. Learn to do it yourself.

I wish you would do a video on 4 stroke outboards making oil. I have a 2013 Yamaha F70 that I purchased new. Broke it in just like the manual said. Never had a problem for the first three seasons. Then last year after winter I hooked the hose to it and started, let it run for about fifteen minutes. I turned off and when I pulled the dipstick the oil was all the way up the dipstick. I drained the oil into a bucket and the changed the filter and put new oil in it. The used oil smelled like gas was in it. This engine has about a 100hrs on it and it doesn't stay in the water. Found out from the mechanic at the dealer they had the same problem on their rental pontoon boats because people just put and never run them hard. Now I run it at higher RPM's for the first 15-30 minutes and it does seem to take care of it. This is not just a Yamaha issue but happens to many manufacturers. Any thoughts?

My Yamaha 70 has a gas smell to the oil as well. All you can do is run it hard and keep an eye on the oil level.

I got a question. I'm looking at a 2003 yamaha hpdi 250hp. The person had it rebuilt block, posting, rings so on and so forth. My only concern was the compression was 95 to 100 on all cylinders. It will need to do the break in prosses. Will the compression numbers get higher after word's. It sounded good running as he did start it up for me. It's only ran about 10 min since the rebuild.

No you shouldn’t In short term better than running with no water Your local dealer is an idiot Go elsewhere I’ve had customers tell me they have run motor for years when flushing with freshwater wash More an indication of how good Yamahas are rather than a good idea It’s eazy just do what Yamaha says

Can you elaborate on the warm water coming out of the tell tale when you are in the idle position. I have a brand new Yamaha f90 and pees pretty warm in idle. When I bump it up a little bit it starts to cool down. Thank you for the video I appreciate it!
@BrisbaneYamaha
Жыл бұрын
The water temperature is just an indication the motor is warm Like all combustion engines it’s important to worm the engine before high revving I have know friends with big bite motorcycles to wait what seems a life time before taking off I think it’s way less important with outboards because they only rev to 6000 not 12000 like some bikes and normally we don’t do performance engine work to make the outboard go faster unless your a racer I wouldn’t be concerned about warm water at idle that normal until thermostat opens F90 is a bullet proof motor and will last thousands of hours of absolute abuse so normal recreational use the motor will last you your life time of boating True

I would prefer you did 20 hours before long periods of low speed but No shouldn’t When running in an outboard the worse thing you can do is low rev and not changing Revs I would prefer you go flare out rather than really low revs But it’s a yamaha and we’ve never had any issues with damage through improper break in

@BrisbaneYamaha

Most yamahas have a hose fitting on side of motor which you run water through with motor NOT running If your doesn’t use a larger enough bucket for leg to fit it so water covers at least up to bolts that holds leg on

You need to avoid using anything with Ethanol(E10), as the fuel and ethanol can separate over time which is not good for any outboard. We recommend using 95.
