It's called phototropism when a plant grows towards light, fun little vocab for you. Also, most plants grow with radial symmetry and that's why they're so dreamy.
@whitefang238

it is also worth pointing out that you actually SHOULDN'T rotate your plants. You might change them from one place to another when you have no choice( such as moving or giving a plant some sun when it gets none) but u should mark the vase where it points north and always position your plants in the same direction. They grow towards their most comfortable and ideal to be healthy and adapt to their environment this way. turning them hinders this natural process. So it would be better to correct that tip, it was a mistake

i've heard of people leaving tap water out in buckets for a couple of days so the chemicals evaporate... also the reason some people leave pitchers of water out for drinking, I'm currently in the market for a ficus benjamina.. have a great day and workout
@123marksalot
5 жыл бұрын
J M I don’t think that’s how it works, if anything by doing that you get a higher concentration of chemicals because it’s the water that evaporates not the chemicals. If you are concerned about chemicals in your water I would suggest getting a water filter for your tap or a pitcher that filters the water.
@JustJ0nathan
4 жыл бұрын
If you water your plants with tap water, I would fill a pitcher and let it sit for 24 hours to allow the chlorine to evaporate. This evaporation occurs because chlorine is a volatile solute. However, other minerals and chemicals like fluoride will not evaporate. Personally, I prefer to water my plants with distilled water. 🙂
@xxxxlollypopxxx
4 жыл бұрын
Chlorine does evaporate off, as others have said. Personally I water mine with the water from my dryer, since it’s distilled water and I’d just be throwing it away anyway
@loliatamuno5262
4 жыл бұрын
@@xxxxlollypopxxx true, but because of this, chloramine, which doesn't evaporate, is also added to tap water. I use water from my fish tanks when doing water changes to water my plants. If I don't have that, I do use tap water and hope for the best. Nothing is dead, yet!

One thing about large pots: Large pots are (in my opinion) ideal for trees being grown indoors, assuming the tree is healthy. Like a ficus or a dracaena or maybe even a spruce if you are feeling rebellious. You do need to monitor your watering a bit more (do not water the entirety of the soil - just the area at the base of the plant - and use a pot with a lot of drainage) but trees and tree-like shrubs grow largest (i.e., thick trunks) when they have as much room as possible for their root systems to spread out. Growing an indoor tree in the minimum ideal size pot over its lifetime will only ever keep it stunted and its trunk thin.

Wow this is the most helpful and useful video I've seen. Always been a fan of growing plants but they have always died in my care. That hasn't stopped me from trying or learning. I had a palm plant for 3 years before it died, never knew the sudden death. After watching this video, it had definelty given me more confidence to continue my love for plants. It has also make me aware that I'm at least doing some things right, one of them that surprised me the most was repotting after purchasing them. I used to do this when I first started but then I figured to let them stay longer in their nursery pots- especially because of my lack of commitment and work life. Anyways, today was the day I decided to repot my store bought plants from their nursery pots to an appropriate size pot, I noticed this and took action when their roots sprouted out from the bottom holes of the nursery pot. At the moment I'm struggling keeping my clematis from dying 😣

You dont read moisture meter right after you stick it in the soil. You need to keep it there for 10 minutes and take a reading after that, then remove it. You will be surprised how different the reading is after 10 minutes. For example , if I wanted to take a reading right away most of the time it would be around 7. After 10 minutes it shows 3. Which means plant needs to be watered

I have always used a peat moss mixture, but recently read a scientific article and watched a video that told me that pear moss farming is destroying insect populations. Within 100 years we will have no insects, butterflies or bees left on the planet. Agriculture is the biggest reason. So I'm beginning insect gardens on my property after reading this. I have several acres so I can do this. I'm guilty of fertilizing my yard as well as keeping and away after having an ant problem. This all shocked me. I knew that be and butterflies were dying off but didn't know of the others. I'll have to find a non peat alternative. Do you have any ideas?

Tip for gnats/fruit flies (I just learned this! But it works cause I had already put crushed glass in a pot for decoration)you can add rocks or gravel (or whatever) to the top of then soil and then the larvae can’t get out when they hatch, and we’ll, they die! Also for mealy bugs... so easy: I spray water and either rubbing alcohol or hydrogen peroxide on them and it kills hem INSTANTLY (and doesn’t hurt the plants at all! ...At least none of the plants I sprayed!) BUT IF YOU DO spray, keep them out of the sun for a day or two so the leaves don’t get sunburn from the residual alcohol/peroxide.

Great video, you have a dope collection. I’ve been watching a few videos on basic plant care. It’s definitely a vibe, seems like people into this type of thing are really artsy.

It’s always a nice touch to put your post in the pot before putting in new potting medium and your plant. Shoving it in like that might actually damage the roots. 👌🏻

Your videos are always so perfect and insightful! Thank you for this. I killed two plants recently (I’m a newbie) and I felt so discouraged. I really loved them so feeling like I was responsible for destroying them was tough. But this makes me want to keep learning. I’ve always loved your plants and I’m so glad you did this tutorial on them
