Another BS content from these sponsored "expert", overhead cast for beginner with baitcaster is the recipe for disaster. Beginner should never learn overhead cast before they master the side cast with baitcaster.

Just got a baitcaster, side casts are easy so far, can get a good distance, tried an overhead cast and had the worst spiders nest yet 🤣

Yep, I can attest to that! There's a tendency to release too late and slam the lure into the water about 20 feet in front of you. That quick stop (with the spool continuing to unwind) results in horrible backlashes.

I developed a side arm cast where I turn my body about 90 degrees clockwise (for a right hander). I can make a good distance cast without putting to much effort into arms, which gives me more control. Anybody else do that?

Thanks for posting this because I was trying to figure out why it felt awkward for me to side arm cast going to my right. Got to be turned 90° away from the target. Tight lines out there!

So confused when I see people casting right handed but winding right handed also.

it's why all my baitcasters are lefthanded

It's an American problem. You don't see this problem in other countries. Americans got confused by the term "Right-handed" labeling when baitcasters were first introduce to them. They thought if you're right-handed you use "right-handed" baitcasters. But the term "right-handed" was referring to retrieving with right hand. Therefore, a lefty should use "right-handed" retrieve baitcasters and a right-handed person should use "left-handed" retrieve like with a spinning reel. But Americans got used to this confusion and stuck with it and they think it's normal to keep switching hand after casting because they can't cast with their weak hand. lol

@@walden6272 if it works for the angler I don’t think it’s a problem. I cast and reel right handed I have more control and response when reeling with my right hand.

Prefer to do both things with my dominant hand so I can do my best in general. Not really interested in sacrificing performance to avoid switching hands quickly.

Will it effect me if I'm casting a right handed baitcaster using my left arm? I just realised I do this and most people use their right arm.

You can cast with either hand either reel.

Noticed you have reel in vertical position (handle facing the sky ...or facing ground for left handed) when overhand casting. Does this help in casting further?
@Shurmash

It does because the spool is rotating on the shaft which reduces friction. Plus it's a more natural wrist motion.

This also prevents backlashes as well.

I am about to buy my first BC. I am a righty.. I cast with my right with my spinning outfits but retrieve with my left. Should I continue to do with with a bait caster?

That’s what I did , I’m a righty but I always retrieved lefty and I did that when I bought my first baitcaster and it felt more natural to me then retrieving with my right hand
