innovative DIY video. Last part of shaking the liner while it is in the tank out of frame. Lotta good stuff including the paper towel with the red part of the 2 part epoxy.

Nice bike and as one who has restored a bike that is fairly new, I can appreciate and understand the time involved. I'm glad someone finally posted a vid on doing plastic tanks. I just repainted a xr tank to go on a Yamaha tt 250. And it bubbled after 2 days of gas in it. I painted the same tank before and no problems for 10 yrs.

Thanks, I've had the same issue of paint bubbling on plastic tanks, the liner takes care of that so you can paint or use decals on them.

Hey great video, would you be able to tell how the liner is holding up? Really curious as to how it's doing after a year
@OneDownFourUp
2 жыл бұрын
Its still sealed up but recently it cracked at the edge of the fuel spout near the threads for the fuel cap. Thats the area I've been worried about since it gets the most wear from opening and closing the fuel cap.

Hey, so how do you feel this worked out. I’m thinking about doing the same thing for a Honda ATC gas tank that I picked up that has a plastic one on it. It seems a lot better if this would work and I could use the decals on the plastic tank versus buying an old metal one and restoring it. Thank you.

It is the best option I have found for plastic tanks. I have noticed some cracks around the cap but so far it is holding up. Thanks.

@@OneDownFourUp thanks for getting back to me. If I end up doing it, I’m just going to clear coat the red gas tank for my ATC. That way I can just add the emblems.

I have got plastic fuel tank on my tractor that has a split seam or crack in it, I was thinking of possibly doing a little plastic welding but also putting a liner in it the only problem is it is diesel so I'm concerned that the plastic is impregnated with diesel enough that I will never get a good adhesion to it
@OneDownFourUp
Жыл бұрын
You would need to remove the tank to be able to coat the inside on all sides. May be able to clean the diesel with acetone or similar just would take time to get it cleaned.

So been a year now. Hows it holding up? If you still have it. Was thinking about trying this on my 4 gallon IMS tank to prevent stickers from bubble up and off.
@OneDownFourUp

It has cracked at the gas cap because the seal for the cap goes down into the tank. So far it is still holding up and as long as paint doesn't begin to bubble I will be happy with it.

how is this holding up two years later, do you use ethanol free gas on this bike?

Its still holding up. The only thing I do is drain the tank when I'm not using it. I do that with most my bikes though.

@@OneDownFourUp Did you pour the excess material out after rolling? ? 2 full kits? One grey and one red? Have only used clear. And one coat. And drained excess out after rolling to coat all areas. So it didn't settle super thick on the bottom of the tank as it sets up. But am doing my 1st plastic tank now. Only steel and fiberglass so far. Must have more than tripled the weight of the tank with 2 full kits? Just wanted to ask.
@OneDownFourUp

@@modenaro1776 Yea, I poured the excess out for both coats. The different colors just help me see whats been coated inside and what hasn't. Grey over the red tank is easy to see then red over the grey is easy to see too.

Why would you line a plastic tank they dont rust
@OneDownFourUp
2 жыл бұрын
Plastic is permeable, fuel vapor will seep through the plastic and peel up any decal or paint if it isn't lined.
