The dual orbital polisher is great for learning to polish cars, it also doesn't leave swirl marks like a variable speed polisher and it is more forgiving then a variable speed polisher which you already probably know if you don't keep moving you can burn the paint and corners and edges of the car not to forget the rubber around the windows and plastic pieces. You should tape off anything you don't want a rub mark in or compound. I have detailed and polished hundreds of cars in my life. I learned buffing cars with the variable speed and I made mistakes on several cars but without mistakes you can't learn so keep on going and don't be intimated on a project because there will be mistakes, just learn from them and keep going. Keep up the great videos. 👍

The thing with ceramic coatings is that it doesn't mix well with water spots. If you use a quality ceramic coating, and for some reason end up getting water spots baked on by the sun, till need to use sand paper to get it off. If you catch it in time, than a detail spray would be sufficient to remove it. Most people don't know this. As for me, the only thing I ceramic coated was my wheels. As for the car, I use fusso coat black tin from Japan. Last about 10 months here in Hawaii.

When you’re polishing and you mentioned the blue particles flying it’s because of the product. To prevent it you need to make sure you spread the product well but most likely it’s due to not cleaning the pad. Once you noticed the pad is dirty after two sections you clean it then dry it.
@woman.driven

Got it.. that makes sense.. less on the product and get more pads for the work :)

Woman.Driven I only have one white pad and that’s all I use for light polish. Chemical Guys sells pad cleaner. All I do is spray it on the pad, scrub it, dip it in water to rinse it off, and the put it back on the machine to spin air dry it. But make sure you’re outside because all the water will fling everywhere and you don’t want to be near the car. Once you’re done with the job make sure the pad is fully dry or some tiny fungus might grow on the pad due to the water.

Ideally use 2 to 3 pads for a car that large. And clean the pad with a pad brush after each panel. As the pad gets used more during the polishing process, it needs less product. For example, to start, you could use 4 to 5 drops of product, then later it might only need 2 to 3 drops of product. Personally, I would change the pad after doing the front wings / fenders and hood. A fresh pad for one side and half the roof, repeat for the opposite side with another pad, then the final pad for the rear. Yes that’s 4 pads in total, but it is a big car!! The IPA wipe down is to remove any residual polishing oils before ceramic coating. The pre wash is to remove old product from the surface. Well done though for your first attempt, it does look good on camera 👍 Greeting from the U.K. 🇬🇧

FYI, to get less compound to fly everywhere, try to spread it evenly on the panel you are working on and less globs of products on the panel or try using a little bit less product on pad while it is spread evenly on panel and you shouldn't have big globs of compound flying everywhere. One trick I also use is opening the hood and putting towels to cover the windshield and the wipers down into the engine bay then close the hood so it holds the towel in place. This will prevent a messy and hard clean-up on the windshield and plastics on some car windshield vents when buffing the hood.

Use less polishing compound. The first time you prime the pad only use three to four peas size drops. Then after the first pass, after cleaning the section that you did, use compressor air to blow and clean the pad. After that add three peas size drops of polishing compound to the pad and start the next section. That's the reason part of the polishing compound was flying around. The pad had to many polishing compound. It happened to me too, years ago when I first started detailing. I dedicate to detailing vehicles too. Love your channel! Great job! Hell cat looks amazing! Anything I can help with any advice I'll be at your orders. I don't know it all, but we all learning every day. That's what life is about. Take care!

Will do.. I was listening to Chemical guys own video where they said the amount of drops lol.. I should have scaled down if I knew. Does it matter where I blow and clean the pad. I'm sure that will make a mess when I do it. I will attempt this again on my Camaro with all the help and tips provided on this video. It should go smoother; however it will take longer as I will also buy a smaller polisher for the tighter areas. Thanks for helping out with your experience, I appreciate it. Take care and be well.
@josebracero4050

You can use a bucket. Add 1/4 of water to the bucket so when you blow the pad all the dust will be trapped in the water and won't fly around and blow the pad out side. A clean pad does a great job. When the pads get too clogged they only glide on the paint and won't polish and polishing compound will get splatter around and some of that splatter might get on the trim of the car and if not cleaned on time it will stain the plastic trim creating extra work. I'm sure the camaro will look as amazing as the hell cat!

The blue dots is splatter caused by using too much polish. 2 dots is all you need before moving on to the next panel. Also this work takes freaking forever, but your car is in great shape so it wasn’t too bad. It takes even longer when the paint is all swirled with scratches and chips. Multiple pads polishes and hours/days of work. You did a great job.

With that polisher, you don't actually *need* to have it on the max setting when polishing, settings 1-3 is all your need with paint that is in that good of condition *Setting 1 to spread it and 2-3 to work it*. A literal 1 pass polish would be good for that paint :).

couple tips to make future sessions easier 1. you can use the clay block right after you rinse your car. just spray the glide on the standing water and use the block all over the car and then dry it all off at once with a drying towel (don't need to stop after every section) 2. you wanna use multiple pads because your pads will get clogged up as you go 3. you don't need to spray the pad consistently. you really don't even "need" to spray it at all. after the first prime (5 drops), you'll be good using 3 the rest of the way 4. I would definitely pick up the smaller polisher with the smaller pad to do those smaller spaces also, the blue particles flew everywhere most likely because you had too much polish on the pad, and/or the pad came up and it will fling it everywhere. great job for your first time tho

Woman.Driven you did amazing for your first time. Now it’s time to “polish” up your technique 😁👍🏽 you’ll get more and more comfortable. With the 5in pad. 5 pea sized dots to start and 2 or 3 remaining. Switching pads out. On the backing plate, take a sharpie and make a thick line that way you can always make sure the pad is spinning Smaller pad, 4 dots to start and 1 or 2 (depending the area) going on. Any other questions, feel free to hit me up on IG anytime.

I would recommend that the next time you do paint correction, just use your polishing compound and not the spray because that will make it too watery and that is why it is splattering everywhere. Also, start out at a lower speed and spread the product out and then ramp up the speed. Use about 10 small drops on the foam pad, looked like you had too much on the pad. After you finish a 2x2 section blow out the pad with a compressor, and reapply about 5 drops. After you finish, say the hood, change pads if you have more because you will start to accumulate clear coat in the pad which can scratch the paint. You should be able to get away with using 4 pads when just polishing. Great video!
@woman.driven

Yes.. I was told it was to be spray on once as the first time and that's it. My mistake. I started slow to spread, then increased the speed. I will blow out the pad and also get several in the future. This time I'll be better prepared for when I do the Camaro. Thank you!

Nice step by step video. I wanted to suggest on the areas like the front bumper and sides or anywhere it’s difficult to polish with the heavy buffer. The company called Rupes makes a polisher called the mini Bigfoot which is so much easier in those areas. Smaller ,lighter equals less strain. To help with polish splatter, apply polish on your pad then start with a slower speed to spread the polish then you can increase the speed at that point to finish. Just passing along some tips that hopefully you find useful. Keep up the good work. See you in you next video 👍👌😊
@woman.driven
4 жыл бұрын
You are correct. I mentioned that very thing. It was annoying and tiresome holding the polisher at that angle and for small areas. A smaller one would have made the difference. I started slow first to spread, then increased it. I think my issue was likely too much product or not enough pressure on the polisher. Thanks for the help!

Definitely not an easy job that clay bar can give a good arm work out💪 what ceramic coat did you use? And take your time with that polisher the slower you go will be better so you don’t burn the paint.

Nice work! Not a big fan of the Chemical Guys VSS though. Looks like it was creating a lot of dust for you. You may look at 3D One polish which is a great one step.

Hey WD, I just picked up my brand new car from the dealership. What us the bare minimum I need to do as for prep work? I left the car in my garage this whole time not driven yet.

Thank you! I love how it came out.. no, just the polishing part took about that lol. I would say this was easily 7-8 hours for the entire process, not including the car wash. But then again.. I was recording, so that adds time :)

Wow. That came out awesome. The paint looks like it's wet. The perfect look 👌 . Are you going to apply PPF now? I think you should consider it.
@jose09841
4 жыл бұрын
Actually you can't apply PPF on top of ceramic coat, it is hydrophobic so it would not adhere to the paint anymore!! You have to first apply the film and the Ceramic Coat on top! Too late for her.

great job..just wondering could you do the polish step by hand instead of by buffer //also what do you think of iron remover too..
@woman.driven
4 жыл бұрын
You can if you wanted to.. that will just take much longer. I've used the iron remover on other cars.. not this one. I will for sure use it on the Camaro as it's tracked a lot.

Yeah The more polish you use on the car panel the more arm power you will have to use to wipe it off but amazing job doris 👍

Yeah, it took me 8 hrs. to polish and coat my car... particles r dust from the polish, it also looks as though the conditioner which is blue is somehow creating some sort of solid with the polish and creating those large dust balls... I am not a fan of CG anyway... menzerna or sonar r my go to polish. Rupes pads, G Techniq or Gyeon coatings. CQuartz is good also. Think u also used too much product... hence the lrg dust balls. 3 small drops of polish is enough. Did u clean the pad between panels with a small hard bristle brush or did u keep adding product after each panel ... IPA wipe down baby, don’t need to spend money on panel wipe products... IMO IPA works the best.
