Exactly what I needed. Swapped one out on my son's truck, and it wouldn't start. Didn't see the ignition wire when I took the old one off. It must have come unplugged by itself during disassembly. Plugged it in on the new one, and problem solved.

I had similar issue but the cause was my ignition control module. Autozone also sold me 2 defective modules before testing the 3rd final one and solving issue.

this was extremely helpful. You should see the distributor internals on mine if you think yours looks rough. Mine is crazy rusted and even the coil looks like it has been seen some damage.

Ok with out that underneath the coil ground, will it have a system problem of dieing at a moments notice , my truck will just die , it dies driving down the road , it dies if I let it idle, if i don’t turn the key off first it will not restart, it only restarts after I turn key on and off, I’m out of thoughts too on mine , I have changed everything including the coil, the only difference is my ground to the coil is not underneath the coil. I’m going to take my coil back off and make sure the ground strap is underneath my coil. I’m going to change my ignition switch to because when I wiggle my key it shut mine off, kool thanks y’all BigAl California.

So i noticed the problem, did you? THE only reason i noticed it was because this happened to my 1967 camaro. if you look at where your CARBON button fits in... the cap of your old one you replaced is melted a little. this is caused by defective springs. or by tension being worn out eventually. you caught this VERY early and are lucky. the video is a little blurry but you can see the cap starting to melt and corrode .

Bane Nelson yes I ended up replacing the distributor. But it was the ecu inside the distributor. That was bad. I only replaced my entire distributor because of bad bearings inside it too.

Your ground wire is on the wrong fastener on the coil. The ground from the coil has to correspond with the metal ground plane that feeds into the connector. Poor ground means poor operation

I just did this yesterday I was wondering about the black (paint or die) on the ground strap. The instructions actually show (if wires facing you) the bottom ground going to the right and that's the only way it can go. The instructions show the top ground (black wire) going to the screw to the left. Seeing how they are both touching the big piece of metal, it shouldn't matter, just as long they are both touching it.
