Here is a helpful video to go along with this one:
How to replace a string: • How to Change Your Vio...
Hi everyone,
Today I thought I’d do a quick video on how to change out a fine tuner or remove one.
Perhaps your violin has 4 independent fine tuners installed and you only want one on the E string or perhaps you want to install a new on because one is broken or you just want to replace it with a shiny new one! Regardless, I’ll show you how and it’s actually pretty easy to install a fine tuner on a violin.
Step 1. Remove the string that is attached to the fine tuner you want to remove by unwinding the peg and pulling the string out. If it’s an older string, this may be a good opportunity to replace the string.
Step 2: Completely remove the fine tuner screw by turning it counter clockwise.
Step 3. Loosen the nut that attaches the fine tuner to the tailpiece by turning it counter clockwise. Complete remove it.
Step 4. Carefully pull the fine tuner down from the hole in the tailpiece; being careful not to scratch the top of your instrument.
Step 5. Reverse the previous steps and make sure that when you tighten the nut, you make it as tight as possible with your fingers and you could even use a pair of pliers, but be careful because you can over tighten it and break your wood tailpiece.
Step 6. Replace your string. If you need assistance with this, watch my video on replacing a string, so it’s done properly and your peg doesn’t slip after your done. The video is here: • How to Change Your Vio...
That’s it! Good luck and happy practicing!
