The chain continues through the white apparatus until it hooks onto the black arm that is depicted in your video. Will this still work if we use the one depicted in your video or do I need to purchase the one with that white plastic float? I appreciate any advice you can offer. Thanks in advance.

What if your toilet is an older model and the flapper has a plastic holder needed. Can it be replaced with a newer type of flapper?
@jeffostroff
2 ай бұрын
I encountered this last week at my niece's house, and problem is the flappers at Home depot don't have the rigid plastic support piece, so you try a regular flapper and it is too flexible and shuts down before the water can flush out of the tank, giving an incomplete flush. I told here for now, just hold down the handle until it flushes, and we need to get a new toilet, I prefer the American standard Champion Toilet, about $229.

I tell you sometimes those things are a real pain to get off and I feel like I'm gonna kill my fingers especially now that they're wet from the water and they're more sensitive. When I have done sometimes is get a small pair of pliers and just gently stretch out that little rubber eye that holds it onto that little post at the bottom and just twist it upward to get it off of the post but be very gentle not to break that plastic

Mine is an old toilet in a 1956 house. It uses a toilet ball made by Fluidmaster. It leaks worse after you change it. I had to soak it in hot water from the coffeemaker and push it in before it cools down. I then filled the bowl with hot water from the sink. I put my oil-filled radiator next to the tank and covered it all with a fiberglass curtain. I let the heater run on high for 4 hours. The tank got up to 130°F. It sat there two hours before the water got cool. I left it overnight to shape to the hole. I used it the next day and it flushed okay. 🐀🐾

Need to see better how to fix the chain as our flapper top is broken and the chain slipped right out. Temp fix with a paper clip through a different part of the top of the flapper only worked once or twice. Also, how do you get the right chain length back? Bowl fills very little. Thanks! Heading to hardware store get new flapper, old one in hand, now.
@jeffostroff
2 жыл бұрын
A new flapper is a no brainer they're only $6. If the top of it broke off like that chances are the plastic was already degrading it must have been a really old flapper. You don't need to do anything with the chain in terms of adjusting the length, the what you do is it depends on where you hook it into which chain link that's how it sets the length of chain. So what I like to do is set it so that once the flapper is down and the hook is connected to the top of the flapper, the other end of the hook should hook up so that the chain is sort of intention but not too much tension that it would lift up the flapper.

That is hard to say you would really have to narrow down to see where the dripping sound is coming from.
