Thanks for the info.. Where can I find all other torque values for Alfa 159?
@ronald7638

If you want to do the axle nut @9:40 properly, use the following procedure from the workshop manual: - While the car is off the ground: - Tighten the nut to a torque of 135-165 Nm. - Undo the nut by 90° ÷ 115° - Pretighten the nut to a torque of 67-74 Nm. - Tighten the nut through an angle of 45° ÷ 49°. - Check that the final tightening of the nut is 200-380Nm. - Stake the nut collar twice. Yes it seems quite tedious but you will be very happy if you have to take it off another time again. As you can see, 280 Nm could be overkill since factory says anywhere between 200-380Nm is fine (as long as you follow procedure and you stake the nut).

Great tutorial autodoc.co.uk . I think for most owners of 159 you could do a : replacement of cambelt and also changing/cleaning of intake manifol which involves install of a new cam belt. Many thanks!

Wrong procedure on the hub nut torque tightening.
@George.Coleman
3 жыл бұрын
I thought hub nuts are meant to be on much tighter than wheelnuts. 120nm seems overkill for the wheel nuts and 100nm is not enough for the hub nut

Hub nut tightening procedure on Brera 2.2, 2.4, 3.2: 1/ tighten nut to 143-158Nm 2/ undo by 90degs 3/ Pretighten to 67-74Nm 4/ Tighten nut through an angle of 45 5/ Tighten to 200-380Nm. wheel nuts are about 130Nm. Don't know if it changes on the 1750 TBI.

@@donnagrimshaw3512 maybe manufacturers are being too cautious. Just standing on the end of a 50cm wrench is enough for wheel nuts, I weigh 90kg, they'll never come off. 130Nm is crazy, thats 3 of me 270kg on the same wrench, it risks snapping the heads or shearing the threads. Be careful.

if you tighten the hub nut with the full weight of the vehicle on the hub/drive shaft on the ground then the hub nut can get cross threaded. Full hub nut tightening procedure not shown. New Hub nut needs to be staked afterwards.

Tutto bello e facile da come viene mostrato ma nella realtà le cose possono cambiare, ovvero, a me è successo che il perno del semiasse non si sfili dal millerighe perché ossidato, perciò si deve togliere il tutto dal cambio e andare sotto la pressa

This procedure took me longer than expected. 1 day When unbolting the axle nut I noticed that the M36 socket won't fit through the rim center hole (momo revenge r18). So lowered car so brake disc lies on a pile of wooden boards and then tried to remove the axle nut. All my breaker bars 1/2 was bending like crazy. I couldn't unbolt the axle nut. Maybe it previously was torqued with an impact gun. 2 day tried drilling into the bolt to lose stress from threads by splitting the bolt. Broke 4 drillbits while doing so. Then made a wedge from 10 toughness grade stud to split the bolt. Finally, I was able to unbolt the axle nut Next, I tried to remove the lower ball joint. Surprise surprise but my tool (BALL JOINT SEPARATOR 19 MM PROLINE code 46871) won't fit (damaged rubber boot - nice) so I had o widen the space of the fork to 22mm, then it worked out. 3 day When unbolting the wheel hub noticed that it's stuck very good. Contrary to this video haven't had a place to put a chisel to knock it off as shown in 4:10. My car (2.0L JTDm 125kw diesel also my brake caliper look different). After struggling to knock off the wheel hub I unbolted the knuckle to hammer out the wheel hub from another side. Noticed white sediment around the inside perimeter of the knuckle where the wheel hub sat (maybe salt idk) 4 day Cleaned knuckle where possible, then put copper ease between knuckle and wheel hub. While assembling the wheel hub you need to cut the axle nut a bit to hammer fins in axel opposing sides so it won't unbolt itself (pic of reference prnt.sc/1hz19ts). IMPORTANT: don't put thread locker on nut and bolts which are torqued with a torque wrench, because torque values are listed for dry bolts/nuts. Also, axle nut 9:35 should be torqued to a much higher value as discussed in this forum post www.alfaowner.com/threads/axle-nut-torque.1016225/ And for the end, my tip is to use lithium grease between the splines of the axle and wheel hub. I don't understand why WD40 was used in this place 5:32 ? This experience gave the best advertisement to buy proper ball joint separator kit and power tools (impact wrench)

You shouldn't put the copper grease on it, the heat from the brakes can't be absorbed by the wheel then. Which will make the disc's way hotter and get uneven. It shouldn't be on the hub and it shouldn't be on the disc. Very nice guide though👍

Yes, I've done this procedure on my drive. Didnt need to split the balljoint. Also, not impressed with Autodoc not pointing out the most safety critical part of the procedure... It also requires a heavy duty torque wrench, as it's circa 300Nm Its a shame, as these videos are really nicely put together! This video really should be replaced though...

@@andrewjackson8431 is 120nm not tight enough? couldnt get a socket to the hub bolts and couldnt split the bottom joint so ended up undoing the top arm joint to swing the upright away from the drive shaft to access the bolts.
