Thanks for the tapping and pulling tip. Worked perfectly! Didn’t have metric so I did 1/4 20. I froze brass piece and heated body with heat gun and it went together easy.

That brass inlet probably warmed-up to room temperature between you fingers as you chatted and set-up for the job. I recommend setting-up in advance and also warming-up the carb body with a heat gun for easier results.

Tried it before. Didn’t work. It would only work if you could drive the inlet in within a spit second, otherwise the heated carb body transfers the heat on to the inlet. Yes, in the video it was taking too long. Cause of the filming and talking plus, since I cracked one, I’ve always been extra careful :)

@@aronsgarage834 I understand, it makes sense as the mass of the inlet is so small that the heat would transfer immediately to it. Thank you.

Have you thought about chamfering the hole? That will allow perhaps a better starting surface Than milling or filing a flat perpendicular to the diameter to be pressed in on the fitting

It might work but I wouldn’t want to compromise the seal with the press fit. Have you tried it yourself? What I’m planning to do though, is fabricating a tool which will bolt onto the carb and press it in 90 degrees. I already got an L shaped thick steel plate to work with. Will make a video on that when finished.

Good video! Can I use a M6 metric threaded screw for pull out the old bronze inlet? The difference with 1/4 " is very small :)

Any chance you remember the diameter of the hole so I can find the right brass inlet? Thx

It’s around 19mm if I remember correctly, but can’t tell you precisely as I’m away for a few weeks. I do have a couple of carbs at home so can measure when I get home. (If not too late)

Why not tap threads into the carb and screw a new nipple in there?
@aronsgarage834

Nipples are press fit, don’t have threads.

@@aronsgarage834 yea I KNOW MY QUESTON IS Why didn't they thread that hole to make it much easier to remove and install a new nipple.
@aronsgarage834

Got you! I guess sealing wouldn’t have been guaranteed that way. Plus nipple could have ended up pointing in the wrong direction after screwing in.
