Nice tutorial! There is also very powerful technique for sizing rhino and stl ring models - using the "Flow along curve" command. With simple ring you just select the ring, first shank diameter, second diameter and have the "Stretch = Yes" option set. You have the ring properly sized while keeping the width and thickness the same as in the original ring. The command is also useful for more complex rings if the lower part of the shank is simple. In that case you can cut the shank at the bottom and use the "Flow along curve" command with "Stretch=No" option to keep the form of the ring intact. After using the flow command the gap in the shank is closed using the "Sweep 1 Rail" command. The stones are moved separately by using the same "Flow along curve" command with the option "Rigid=Yes". In fact, the technique is like the one used to size rings in metal - the shank is cut at the bottom. And if changing to bigger size, a piece of metal is added to fill the gap.
