The current marina I work at has taught me to always put in sparkplugs bottom to top. I've never really asked why, but seeing it done a different way made me curious. I'll be asking about it tomorrow :) always great to learn new techniques.

Great video, what year was those 150’s and is there a torque pound that could be used when tightening? Thanks for the information

Thanks for the video. As other stated why no anti-seize? Also do you recommend a fuel additive such as SeaForm?

2 :57 "You snug them up 3/4 of a turn when they are fingertight" - no no more like 1/8 of a turn for a new one and 1/16 for re used

Wrong, NGK crush washers plugs require approx. 1/2 - 3/4 turn. (This is straight from NGK) ...

Should be done with a torque wrench and 18lb of torque

I have the exact same motor and my temp alarm only comes on when trolling low rpm's...the motor is peeing well....when you shut the motor off it resets the engine and the alarm goes away. I am changing the plugs first to see if that controls the problem.

Curious if you solved the temp alarm coming on when trolling at low rpms? From what I've learned it could be the PVC valve (poppit valve) requiring cleaning or replacement but if just replacing the plugs fixes it I'd sure like to know as I have the same issue and am looking at replacing the PVC valve which is more work than replacing the plugs.

Ok Eric. changing spark plugs is so easy, so is changing oil and filter etc. So why does it cost 450$ for a service?

Yep. Your fired. If you don't use never seize, you stand a huge chance on ruining my motor. You must have never seen threads stripped in an engine head or pulled out with the spark plug. Not pretty and expensive to fix.

1. you're 2. If *you're* doing your scheduled maintenance on time +/- a few hours, and you torque the spark plugs properly according to manufacturer specs with a calibrated torque wrench, your plugs will never seize. Doing the maintenance on time and torquing the plugs correctly is the anti-seize. 3. Novice techs and backyard grease monkeys stand a much higher risk of destroying your $25,000 outboard by using anti seize that is not suited for aluminum heads or the marine environment and causing galvanic corrosion between the plug thread material and the aluminum heads. The risk is mitigated with cast iron heads but not completely eradicated. 4. Similarly, improperly placed or overused anti-seize/grease can make its way into the combustion chamber where it doesn't belong. Best case scenario, it's burned off. Worst case scenario, it's conductive and shorts the spark plug electrode to the ground causing all sorts of issues. 5. Anti-seize and grease on threads causes a false torque reading for torque wrenches. You are much, much more likely to strip threads from over torquing a spark plug that is drenched in greased rather than having a spark plug seize after 100 hours of use without anti seize. Don't take shortcuts, do your scheduled maintenance on time and torque plugs properly and seizing will never be an issue. If you're dead set on using anti-seize, a tiny dab of non conductive (read: TINY DAB) marine grease with the excess wiped off is all that is necessary.
