Why did you remove the drain plugs seperately rather than taking both out and letting both drain before replacing the drain plug/bolts?

No real reason. You can remove both of you prefer. Thanks for watching.

I just want to sum up all I've found, feel free to correct: There are TWO drain plugs on all VTX1800. It's important to drain this bike on the side stand, it's made to be drained this way, if you fail to do this, you *will* leave about 1/3 quart, or more behind. A good, quick explanation of why, is the "front plug is for the dry sump of the crankshaft area, so whatever drains down after engine shutdown stays in that area. The rear drain plug is for the oil reservoir and transmission"-VTX forums(Hans&Feet). Drain order is: *Open plug nearest oil filter first, then the other, let drain, install new filter, replace plug close to filter first, then second plug.* It should take a total of 3.9qt, or exactly 4, depending on length of oil filter(I think K&N is close to 4). Stay away from synthetics due to reported clutch slippage using it. Check oil with warm engine, not hot, bike on level ground, and straight up, *do not* screw in dip stick to check. Enjoy a long life with your badass X bike!

My 2003 vtx1800R calls for 10w30. I cant imagine why it’s different than your 2005

Great job. I think your frame needs a little rust removal and a coat of primer, little dragging on the pavement there. Or were you jumping logs off road?
