Just one trick to make it even better. Remove the filter for the duration of old oil dripping. It will let air in from the top making it drain faster. Also it will prevent old residing in the filter to get into the system when you remove the filter when the drain nut is back in place

how long should the oil change intervals be? I drive mine about 3,500km city driving with lots of stop and go traffic per year so I change mine once a year. Is that okay? The owners manual suggests to change it every 6 months.

For a crd with lots of stop start I'd be changing every 5k. I'd also be trying to go for a decent run every now an again (at least an hour on the freeway) so that the engine can get to a good temp to burn out some crud :)

Whatever the manual says, no need to change any more than that, the USA has this crazy culture of changing oil every three months and there is a big oil changing industry built around it that actively encourages this nonsense. Years and years ago when engines and oil were not as good it was warranted but with todays modern engines and oil once a year is sufficient and is in fact what most car service manuals state.

Thank you for the tutorial! Just one missing point... how do you perform the "Oil Life Reset" in the ECU?
@VideoShowMeHow

Ahh yes for the 2012 JK will need to this (assuming you're meaning on a Jeep JK?) How to Reset the Change Oil Alert on a Jeep JK 1) Put your Jeep in "Park" and turn off the engine. 2) Turn the ignition to the "On" notch, without starting the engine. 3) Push the gas pedal to the floor three times (within ten seconds). Turn the ignition to "Off," and then start the engine to verify that the alert is turned off.

Hey mate! Cheers for the video! Just wondering if you’ve experienced any white smoke on start up along with a small oil leak in yours? Have the same jk CRD 2009 model, have done a bit of research, doesn’t sound like a biggie but would be keen to know if you had a similar situation, Cheers!

I am abit confused on what oil I should run on my 08 jk crd with 175km Melbourne weather conditions I have been suggested 10.40, 5.30 , 5.40 and many more what should I run? Thanks

Hey mate, I run 10/40 in QLD, find it to be a little quieter in my 08. Both specs 5 and 10 would be fine, def go a 40. We're pre DPF so don't need the newer compatible oils, I'd def get something at least Ci-4+ penrite and nylon both do a good one. Currently running the nulon heavy city diesel 10/40 full syth in mine for the last 50k.

I have heard of Wesfil oil filters failing. Any idea mate ?

Hi Pav, haven't heard of any? This Cooper filter that I have used here is the same company. Westfil has been around for a while and follows some pretty stringent standards (ISO 9001:2000 ISO/TS 16949:2002) as with most aussie filter brands. What do you usually use?

The bottom outlet of that Provent catch can....what have you connected it to ?
@VideoShowMeHow

The bottom outlet is the drain hose, the oil collected drips into it. There's a drain tap on the end of it. I have it positioned above the gearbox cross member for easy draining at servicing :)
