UPDATE: In the beginning of the video you see I got my part off of EBAY from Solo Auto Parts out of Miami. I paid $199 and if you send back your old part it is a lifetime warranty for the refurbished one. It comes to you already FLASHED for your VIN. (I neither sponsor nor endorse this company I am just sharing the info)
I have also been told PT's have a "crappy" design and because of where the PCM is placed it over heats a lot. I live in Vegas and my car is a bitch in the summer. I am not a mechanic nor am I mechanically inclined but I was willing to try this fix to get myself a little more time out of my car... Without a mechanic's bill. It worked and I made it through summer. There are a lot of other things wrong with my car now, but had I replaced the PCM (aka) ECM a long time ago, I would have had less headaches and unnecessary repairs along the way. I plan to put my car to pasture soon and wait for classic status =]
This is a video that will show you just how easy it is to change the PCM on a 2004 PT Cruiser.
We did it twice because of a mix-up with the part and decided to film the second time to show other people that ANYBODY can TRULY do this for themselves and save about $800.00.
Good Luck!!!
