If you want to take the end off, wiggle it side to side for a couple seconds, breaks it off cleanly inside the tuner and you don't have any sharp ends

This works perfectly for electric, but i bring my tool every where just cause its more difficult with acoustic because of the pegs.

I put a 30-35 degree kink on the end of the string, so the end lies on the post and nothing sticks out. But I put as many winds on the post till they go past the waist of the post. And I press them upwards with a dull butterknife. I do this after having some thoughts: why put 2-3 windings on each post? Because just 1-1,5 would slip, right? Right! That means it doesn‘t matter if there are 2 or 20 wraps, only the last 1,5 will slip.🤷🏻♂️😊 Lots of benefits winding many winds on each tuning post: 1.- If past the waist, the wind wants to move upwards towards the slimmer diameter and will press even tighter against the winds above it. Doing so, increasing the friction even more. So less slippage. 2.- Same time the string is past the sharp edges of the post holes, so less string breakage too. 3.- Next benefit: the string being near the base of the post will most probable increase sustain, because there is less elastic give than near the upper end of the post. More stiffness equals less energy loss. Maybe a tighter attack too. 4.- Also, with the string leaving the post very low, on some guitars you can get rid of the string trees, because of a steeper break angle at the nut. Helps for better tuning stability.
