I understand what you must be going through. My father died of melanoma when i was 17 (now i am 32), and my mother has schizophrenia. So i missed out on a lot of advice and life lessons that i had to learn the hard way. Never be too afraid to ask questions to people. I often struggled with feeling like a failure for not knowing basic things that other people just seemed to know, until i realized the amount you miss out on if you are not able to have casual talks with your parents, or just sit at the dinner table with your family talking about your day or plans. So to anyone who is in a similar position, don't be too hard on yourself for not knowing things. People who do know these basic things that you might have missed out on, most likely learned them from their parents.

You'd have to really overfill them way above capacity. The pressure they are meant to be filled to is way less. You can actually see what the max pressure for the tire is if you look around on the tire. For example my tire for my Z4 is to be set at 32-34 psi while max pressure is 49 psi. If you take your time its really hard to overfill.

Quick note: if you have the tire light on and it doesn’t go away after filling your tires up, there could be three reasons. First you car may require you to reset your Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) which is just the system that keeps track of the air in your tires; you can find that out by looking in your owners manual or looking up if your car requires it to be reset. The second reason could be because one or multiple of your sensors stopped working, which would most likely require a tire shop to fix (which isn’t too expensive $50-$100). Lastly if the light came on after getting new tires, it is possible that the new tires that were installed didn’t have TPMS Sensors on them, which will cause the light to come on.

I just want to say thank you, so much, for taking the time to do this. My father taught me so much growing up, stuff about cars, house repairs, etc. Anything I needed to know I would call him. He passed away in January of 2019 and I miss having his guidance for these types of things. It seemed like he knew a little bit of everything! Just recently I had to go to home depot to get a few screws and a new wax ring for my toilet. I dont know anything about plumbing, out of habit I was in the aisle and went to call him without thinking, and it hit me how I have to figure these things out alone now. My mother and I share a two family house, and I've always been the one who has to do the repairs for her, she cant even hammer in a nail,lol. My dad was my go to for things like that and I miss him terribly. Thank you so much for taking the time to make this channel, I truly appreciate it!

I personally walk around and take all 4 valve caps off of all the tires and walk around with my gauge and read the pressures. If it's fine I put the cap back. Then I know which ones to fill after I get the station to turn it on. As long as you get gas, they must give you free air (at least in California as far as I know). 👍 Great idea explaining tire sizes

@123kalbrecht
4 жыл бұрын
There’s also tread indicators in between the tread of the tire, they are little square notches in between your tread, when the tread of your tire reaches the same height as those notches, it’s time to replace your tires ASAP, I believe those notches are usually 2/32 so you want to try to replace them a little bit before it reaches the notches, also make sure that the tread height is even all the way across the tire, it may look fine towards the outside of the car, then it could be bald/showing wire on the inside
@KS-bu7we
4 жыл бұрын
Best way is to go buy (they’re cheap) a “Tread Depth Gauge” and measure the tread from the outer, middle, and inner tread lines from each tire. The unit of measurement at least in the states, is out of 32nds of an inch. if anywhere on the tire is between 0-4/32nds I would recommend replacement :) checking both outer and inner (outer being closest to you, inner being on the other side, near the suspension) is very important, as uneven wear from alignment is very common
@tsjeriAu

Depending on the tyre, it might have a mm-"counter" in it. My Nokian winter tyres have numbers in the middle of the flat surface, so when it was new it showed 4, 6, 8, etc next to each other, but as it wears, the higher numbers disappears, so you'll know roughly where it is. All 8s have disappeared from my tyres, but the 6s are still visible (they fade as it gets closer too), so I know they are between 4 and 6mm thread depth, closer to 6 judging by the fade. I bought a tool (like this one: images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/61UAAyTmmSL._AC_SL1500_.jpg), and sure enough they are at 5.2 to 5.5mm which means I have at least 1 season left on those tyres. (As I live in Norway where it can snow quite heavily (also ice), it's recommended to change tyres when they reach ~5mm thread depth. Don't get too much snow normally where I live, so depending on how much they wear next winter it might last another season but I doubt it. Also regarding when you should change it, it depends entirely on where you live, and the local laws. In Norway, the legal minimum thread depth during the summer season is 1.6mm, whereas it's 3mm during the winter (5mm for trucks over 7500kg iirc). Most people recommend 3mm+ for summer and 5mm+ for winter, but again, it depends on the weather. If it's a lot of rain during the summer, you want more thread depth else you risk aquaplaning (riding on top of the water instead of dispersing it resulting in no steering/braking ability), whereas during the winter you want enough thread depth to disperse the snow/slush (and water if it's warm enough) but also get enough snow into the threads to help with traction. This got a bit longer than I intended, hope it helps!

After you get these answers, get the VIN # and search the title (prolly cost a few $). Check the info given is correct (lies = shady salesmen) also look for and accidents related to that vehicle. Salvage title = don't buy! that car was in a serious wreck. last KBB.com (Kelly Blue Book, also a few $) the most trusted source for used car prices. Prolly should have started with KBB so you can search your car and have an informed idea before you talk to the seller.

Some other tips: -You can fill the tire fuller than the recommended pressure, just don’t go over the max pressure written on the actual tire. The fuller the tire, the bumpier the ride, but the longer the tire will last. Usually filling it 2-3 units over the amount written in the side panel, like he did in the video, is the way to go. -If you overfill the tire, don’t worry! Just press the nozzle on the tire to the side and let the air leak out (it will make a hissing noise) and check the pressure again until you get it where you want it.

One thing you need to be aware of is that newer cars, like my 2016 Honda, only show "Tire Pressure Low" without telling you which tire is low. What is being measured is not the air pressure in each tire directly; instead, the sensor merely keeps a count of the tire rotations and reports when one tire is rotating more times than the others (because it is slightly smaller due to the low pressure). On my Honda, once you refill the tire to the proper pressure, you have to run the TPMS Calibration. (The car must be in Park to do this procedure.) Touch "Settings>Vehicle>TPMS Calibration" and then "Calibrate" on the touchscreen menu and click "OK". IMPORTANT: You must drive the car for about 20 minutes without turning off to calibrate. If you drive less time, you will just get the error message again. Note that the new air compressors at gas stations have an automatic feature for the pressure that you select. If you select "32 psi", then the compressor will beep loudly when you have reached 32 psi. Do this for all four tires to make sure they all start at the same pressure. By the way, always check and fill tires in the first few miles of driving, before they get too hot. In cold weather, all of your tires will lose pressure.

If the tire pressure indicator (shown in the video) blinks for about 60 seconds when you turn the vehicle on, then goes solid, it means that one or more of the sensors inside your wheels has malfunctioned or died, it doesn’t necessarily mean that one of your tires is low, bring it to a local tire shop or a discount tire, do NOT bring it to a dealership

Hi Dad! thank you for this. May I make a suggestion? Having a manual gauge maybe better in that you will always be able to use it since it has no battery that might die on you. You don't use one terribly often, and won't have to find a battery in the middle of the night! I have had the same manual gauge through 6 cars, and several car break-ins where everything was cleared out but that, no one wants the ole trusty! Also, what the car manufacturers want for PSI and what the tire manufacturers want for PSI sometimes don't match. Being between the two numbers is good, but never above the PSI on the tires. You can show the tire info is near the tire size markings on the tires themselves. This was an awesome video, you are a great Dad and I look forward to seeing more. Cheers!

Thank you Rob! Your story also became viral in the biggest Chinese social media Weibo, where I heard about you from. Millions of people are touched by your story. I live in the U.S. now and have access to KZitem. I want to leave a comment and thank you for doing this. My father left me, my twin sister and my mom when I was 4 because he wanted boys, not girls. I enjoy your videos! I’m learning how to do ties so I can help my husband😹.

Thank you so much for being a "Dad" guidance for so many of us. My dad died 10 years ago when I was just 17 and I still hadn't learned all of these "Dad" things in life. I truly don't know how I made it through college without "Dad" guidance. I appreciate you and respect what you are doing for all of us with or without Dads. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. What an empathetic "Dad" you must be.

Thank you for telling people about the door placard for the air pressure. I work at a tire shop and you wouldn't believe the amount of people who inflate their tires to the maximum PSI of the tire that is written on the sidewall of the tire. Do NOT do that people. It's really bad for tread wear and as your tire ages and wears, it's not as strong and can blow out.

Thank you! For this video and this channel. My biological dad walked out on my mom and me when I was 6mo, and later when I was 12yo, my step dad both walked out on my mom, me, and 3 younger siblings too. We have grown up w/o a dad. I'm 20 now, and very lost on a lot of things, but you're helping me out! Thanks!!

Thank you for these videos. I lost my dad when I was 11 years old to cancer. I didn’t know at the time how hard life was about to be by not having him here. And if anyone else is reading this that has lost their dad, I just want you to know that you are not alone. I know you may feel defeated, but we are all going to get through this. Together.

For anyone in the state of california, the air and water pump is free by law. If it is coin operated, just speak with the worker of said gas station and they will turn it on.

@@BaileyGoldstein Section 13651 of the California Business and Professions Code. In case you want to check, but my father told me about it when i was a young buck just starting to drive. Because it is a safety issue, which is why it was passed. I cannot speak for other states though

Omg thank you Dad! I've been going to the garage when my tyre light comes on and having them pump them back up 🤦🏼♀️ I'm 35! It happens every couple months, so I'm going to buy a gauge so I can check and inflate them myself 🤣🤣🤣 THANK YOU DAD! ❤️❤️❤️

The other two (KPa, and BAR) are kilo pascals. the other is bar (both standard units of pressure in physics and most EU)...1KPa (1000 Pa-pascals) equals to 0,01 bar...all that equas to 0.145 psi. that means if you want 34 psi pressure in a tyre, you must have 234.4 KPa or 2.3 bar...all of that means the same pressure, just in different ''language''.I hope this helps somebody.

PSI is Pound per Square Inch, so it is Imperial, therefore pretty america specific. KPa is Kilo Pascal. One Pascal is a Kilogramm per square meter. Usually this value is very low, so you tend to use Kilo(one thousand) pascal. this unit is used pretty much everywhere else. A bar is approximatly air pressure, which is why people like using it. Its 100.000 Pascal, or 100 KiloPascal. This is commonly used for stuff because the numbers will be way lower and easier. 34 PSI would be around 2.3 bar, or 230 KPa :)
