I found, after about three to four years the zoom spout turns into gum.

Thanks for the tip! Will keep an eye on the oil for sure. I check mine annually. Thankfully, these are easy to tear down for cleaning, should I find that happens to me.

Zoom spout gets gummy? I definitely believe you on that means how you have tons of knowledge on Hunter originals plus you taught me enough that I’ve completely disassembled my originals to do a thorough oil change and made sure the reservoir and the oil return lines were clean. I’ve had zoom spout for 1.5 years now in my originals and reading this makes me want to do an oil change with genuine Hunter oil.

Thank you. I have two Hunter fans over an indoor pool. They have been operating 24-7 for 26 years without a problem! I have checked them about every other year. I did not know the proper procedure for checking the oil level and over filled one causing a mess. I just took one apart to clean it and it looks like new other that the extra oil that had gotten everywhere. I expect that they will continue to run and run and run. Thank you for your excellent video!

@@dynatrak I was told mine would outlive me as long as I kept them oiled, and I believe it as I was a little over 50 when I had them installed

Thank you dynatrak. I FINALLY fixed my frozen hunter fan with the help from your video & instructions. I bought Hunter fan oil but didn't quite know how to add the oil. I wasn't able to locate the check oil level slot, but since this fan hasn't been oiled in at least 30 years, I slowly added the recommended amount just like it was a new fan. I'll also put a few drops in my other two working hunter fans for maintenance.

I was told by the electrician who installed my Hunter Originals - because they're up really high and I couldn't hold them up there while installing them, too! - that they should be oiled annually. Based on my own experience, I don't think it's necessary to oil them annually but it can't hurt and it's better than having your fan grind to a screeching halt.

@@bethwright8595 Unless they leak, they should be ok for a while. I wouldn't go over five years without checking the level.

Thanks for the video. My fan gets stuck and I have to tap it to start spinning. Is it because the oil is low?

You’re welcome! Either that, or a bad capacitor, if equipped.

I just salvaged 3 of the 2002-07 Hunters with the oil port in the switch housing. Could I drill a 3/16” hole in the upper motor housing and make an oil port where they are on earlier and new models? Thanks!!

I'd just use them as is. I suppose you could sacrifice one to experiment with though!

Good tutorial for when I own some of these one day. Also do you recommend checking the oil once a year or every other year or either way?
@dynatrak

Thank you! I have an owners manual for a new old stock 1981 Original, and it states to check every five years. I just got in the habit of checking every year, because of the ones on the patio. They usually need a little bit of oil added. Every other year is perfectly fine for normal use!

So you have to remove the blades to check the oil level?
@dynatrak
3 жыл бұрын
No. That's just a motor I had on the workbench at the time, I don't have room to attach blades while a motor is in the workbench area. It's the same procedure with the blades attached.

Look for a switch on top, or the switch housing. If none, it will only go one direction.

@@isaac24 Not a sealed bearing. If it's making noise, it's worn out, and replacement is the only way to fix it. You may be able to heat the bearing, and get a bit of oil to go in through capillary action, but that is a temporary fix. I've done that on a K63 motor, but wouldn't put it into service until I replace the bearings.
