Chris Coffee, from Busbee Truck Parts, shows you how to check the different fluids in your medium-duty truck. An Isuzu NPR is used as an example, however, this video can be applied to almost all medium-duty trucks. Checking fluids regularly is a part of maintenance and will extend the life of your engine. In this video, you will learn how to check your engine oil, transmission, DEF, brakes, coolant, and windshield wiper fluid.

Good morning i'm Chris with Busbee Truck
Parts one thing that we're going to talk
about this morning is checking the
fluids on your truck it's going to be
Isuzu NPR for our example truck today um
the different floors that we're going to
check today are going to be the oil the
transmission fluid and the coolant also
the depth system so to get to your oil
and your transmission most trucks that
our customers have are going to have boxes
or flatbeds or something of that nature
on it so you're not going to have a big
open space like this with this just
being just a cabin chassis so you're
gonna have to come back here behind the
driver's side of the cab
there is the cabin loose here and then
there's a little notice here
that lets you pull up on this lever
and then there's a little stop right
here you're gonna pull it back and then
just push the cap on locking it here
then you're gonna take this little
safety pin stick
so the first fluid that we're going to
check is going to be the oil
and the oil dipstick on these four hk1
engines for the isuzu npr's is going to
be right here
and what you're going to do you're just
going to pull out
pull it all the way out make sure that
you wipe it clean
so make sure you have a rag or
something on hand then you're going to insert
it back in pull it back out
and then you're going to make sure
on here that you can see the oil and
there's actually two indicator lines the
diesel oil is actually going to be a little dark
but you've got the lope and you've got
the high mark you want to make sure that
you're somewhere in between
come back here to the transmission it's
still going to be the driver's side of
the truck you're going to come back to
this dipstick right here so you're going
to have to pull this back and then pull
up you're going again just wipe it off that
way you can get the excess off stick it back in
you're going to pull it out and what
you're looking for is just to make sure
that your fluid is in between these marks
which is going to be your low mark and
then this mark right here which is going
to be your high mark so you're going to
want it to be somewhere in between this
bottom knot and this top dot your modern diesels
gonna have a depth system which is going
to use def fluid you're gonna have to
make sure that your truck does have
enough depth fluid in it on these isuzus
it's very easy to check you're going to
come back here to the tank and you're
just going to look here at this little
indicator here there's your full mark
and you're going to make sure that you
are not below the full mark
to where you don't see any fluid in this
tube for the next fluid what we're going to
check is we're going to come into the
cab so you have to put the cab back down
you're going to come in here and this is
going to be where the brake fluid
reservoir is located so you're just
going to pop this off right here
and this is going to be your blade brake
fluid reservoir so you have a line here
at the top which is going to be your
maximum then you have a line right down
here at the bottom which is going to be
your minimum you just want to make sure
that your brake fluid is somewhere
in the indicated area
check on these on this truck is going to
be the coolant so you're going to come
to the passenger side towards the rear
of the cap and then your coolant
overflow jug is going to be here so you
have lines again that indicate on the
bottle what your minimum and what your
maximum is so our level's right here
you're just going to make sure that your
level is going to be somewhere in
between here and here making sure that
you have the appropriate amount of
coolant in your truck you don't want to
run one of these trucks out of coolant
because if you do that you're very bad
and below a head gasket or something
of that nature
so the last fluid that we're actually
going to check is going to be the
windshield wiper fluid you're going to
come to the passenger side of the
vehicle open the passenger side door
right here on the dash, you're going to
come down here this is going to be your
reservoir it's going to be in the dash
itself but you have your indicator here
you just look to see if there's fluid in it
here you
