I took the plunge and ordered my first tailored Dogi last February. I went with Hirota and the Pinack for kumite in particular. Everything was done through Kuruobiya, and Hamid who was super helpful guiding me through the measuring process. it took 4 months for my Dogi to be made and to arrive in the UK which I knew would be the case at the time of ordering. Frustratingly is sat for nearly 2 weeks in customs. As for the Dogi it is fantastic. Having used the Tokaido kata master prior to this one, the Hirota is noticeably lighter a you would expect but its still snappy when doing kata and Kihon. It isn't as light as some of the zero gravity kumite dogi that WKF competitors favour. The Pinack for kumite does hold some shape. It is very easy to move in, and comfortable to wear. Shrinkage has been minimal and it has been used and washed twice a week since it arrived in June last year. I always wash it on a cold wash though. It dries quickly and you can get away without needing to iron it if hung right straight after the wash. Because we've been training on zoom through all these lockdowns I haven't felt the need to iron it. but in real life face to face training I would. The few times I have ironed the dogi it has been really easy to get looking good. So Any one wanting an around Dogi I would certainly recommend the Hirota Pinack for Kumite. To me it seems to work well all round.

I always wear Shureido New Wave 3 WKF, but ordered a fully custom Hirota Takumi WKF 1 week ago. It will take 14 weeks to be made, but I think it will be worth it. At Hirota, you can even choose the height of the armhole, length of the 'flap', the width of the arms and the width of the bottom part of the trousers. There are 10 measurements you have to give in total. I don't think any other brand offers that level of customization, not even Shureido. It is kinda pricey though 😬. I can't wait

7 Unzen???

In Serbia, the most common kata gi is the ipon WKF kata master kimono (gi) or ipon kimonos in general but in my opinion the Arawaza black diamond kimono is the best. Stiffer material=better is what I- and most people are going for. People usually wear the ipo gi because it's not as heavy as the arawaza one but I personally like the heavyness. The tokaiodo kimono is also available but I don't have any experience with that brand and i wish to somaday try their gi. About the kumite gis arawaza and adidas are the most used brands.

At the moment I like Hirota's ones, teaching everyday I use the entry level karategi, pure cotton, traditional trousers, not so light and not so heavy. I buy them online from Japan. The only problem is sizes, Japanese sizes aren't good for european people, I'm 1.80 tall but I had to buy size 7 for people 1.90 tall. This problem doesn't exist with Shureido from Japan. For this reason I'm afraid to try hayate karategi. I wait when it will be possible to travel and come once again in Japan.
