Good stuff Stew! Would you consider doing a 'How to' on building a stable camera platform quad? I enjoy flying my micro fpv quads around, but at 61 yrs young I aint going to be winning any races and sometimes enjoy just floating around enjoying the scenery. Your recommendations on GPS/altitude hold modules, ways to increase flight longevity and such would be appreciated.

What is the frame with the green props? Looking to build my first quad
@kulmajaba

Newbie drone pilot and builder here, my two cents: I've crashed a lot with my quad but it's never the arms that break. Instead the much thinner frame plates are taking damage and I've completely destroyed one frame so far (no damage to the arms but the 1,5mm top plate snapped). Thin frame plates with a lot of cutouts are especially prone to cracking at the points of weakness.

Very interesting, but all those frames have their arms flat under the propeller, this would mean it would be worse for aerodynamics and stiffness right? If these arms would be in a 90 degree angle, they would slice through the air and be stiffer right? do those designs exist? (or maybe even a wing profile) Just curious. Still thinking of building your 99$ drone. Keep up the nice reviews!

If you took the traditional style frame and shortened it just enough to fit the stack and the camera, then mounted the VTX vertically against the back like a backplate, I think THAT would be the perfect middle ground between the pod and traditional style frames.

I was wondering if it made much sense to build an octocopter that was configured like a quadcopter - with coaxial rotors? I figured you'd get a ton of thrust, you'd get the redundancy of the 8 motors and it would be a bit more aerodynamic... Wouldn't it?

Hi mate, you asked for some frames to review. I have been looking at the Eachine BAT QX105 frame, wich is for brushed motors. I would like to know if it is possible to mount brushless on the frame (becouse it is a cool looking frame, and cheap) it seems to have screw holes for the motor plastic motor mounts, but I can't find any info on the spacing of them. It would be an interesting project :-) Thank you for all the amazing content, I am learning alot and really getting into drones, with all the nice viedos. I have sort of a long question..... I am building my own drone and I want it to be quick and still maneuver well, but I don't feel like the quads that look like alien ships can hold all of the things I want to put inside it. I plan on getting the 5 inch blade frame and I want to put a pretty big battery inside which means I will have powerful motors and a good camera ( not a go pro but a inside mount camera ). Which brings me to the question, do both types of frames allow adjustment for the camera so I can see where I'm going when the drone takes off and it is looking at the ground? Also can you tell me a frame that has the camera adjustment while able to run a good sized battery with powerful motors

What if you mounted the frame upside down with the motors only on top?Then you get bigger props on a smaller frame and dont need to think about electronics and standoffs getting in the way of the props.
@undecididjjj17g471

deimos76 I'm auctually surprised nobody has made a quad copter like that it would probably handle better because of the lower center of gravity also
@landonmaurer2773
8 жыл бұрын
undecididjjj17g471 it's because you don't get has much thrust due to the frame interfering with the amount of air you can receive and also because you're more likely to break motors and props due to landing on them now
@Lasse48
8 жыл бұрын
I agree on the breaking of motors but not sure about the thrust.Yes you loose thrust on the inside over the frame but you will have more blade spinning on the outside of the arms,but i might be wrong.
@undecididjjj17g471
8 жыл бұрын
deimos76 I agree, also I mean your gonna have the frame as wind resistance no matter which way it is upside down or right side up. so I done think the drag would really change both top and bottem are flat surfaces. if one side was curved then that would be different. idk I just don't see how the frame affects the air flow any different either way the frame is on the underside of the prop..
@landonmaurer2773
8 жыл бұрын
undecididjjj17g471 when a prop is spinning its pulling air from directly above it and slightly around it. Not sure about the slightly around it but I would assume so. But with it spinning under the frame it loses some of the air it can pull. Yes it will pull air farther out on the edges but you lose efficiency

i can't really agree with your statement about carbon vs G10, on the internet i read a lot of stuff about the two materials being very similar despite having some other charactaristics like carbon being a conductor and mess up your rf signals if you misplace your aerials. Carbon is more prone to delaminate than G10. And G10 is really just another laminate not a plastic like ABS or PMMA. I have been flying an second hand bought G10 blackout frame for some time now which came with basicly 80% of spare parts almost enough for a new quad. Never had to use any though, crashed the thing a bunch of times it really looks worn and well used as you would expect. Some of the arms have some damage on which i suspect carbon would have start delaminating. They are bend a little but that doestn affect flying as far as i can tell. Here in holland there are a few hobbyists selling al kind of G10 frames and i think they are great. Only downside is that i think they are a little bit heavier than carbon furthermore i have a replica of an ET 200 frame sold by hobbyking and banggood, mine is with thicker carbon but i really like the frame type, they have a 180 version as well. Although the original is more brittle i think they are great beginner frames because they are easy to build have actually a ton of space inside them and can fit all the bigger components a 250 quad has(vtx, big receiver, hs1177 cam) and they are very cheap

Why do so many people fly with 210 and 5" frames nowadays? It seems like for racing, the rules are now either 4" or 6" (or less) blades, and you'd think that would be the standard? Are the people who are flying freestyle just saying "fuck that" and going with what they think is the most fun? Or is 6 inched blades simply too large to give you the agility you need for racing? Also, it would have been nice if you mentioned the difference between H, X and whatever else type of frames that you can get.
