Hi, great tutorial for a beginner. How do you clean the Colourlock brush? Want to use it on the seats, also, can you use it on the plastic bits of the door panel, or is it better to just spray the cleaner and wipe off with a microfiber towel? Thanks.

Cleaning the brush is simple, just rinse it in warm water and let it air dry. If you get some super disgusting leather cleaning, you can spray a bit of APC on the brush, work it in, then rinse with warm water.

Just tried this product on my 2016 F80 M3 nappa leather steering wheel and got mixed results. While the Colourlock cleaner did obtain a matte finish, my towels had some black residue presumably black dye. FYI, I used the regular cleaner version and not the strong version that you are using in the video. What I should have done was test a small area of the steering wheel instead of doing the whole thing. =(

After reading my viewers' questions, I decided to ask their questions to Colourlock experts and received the following answers: 1) Is there a wait time after using the leather cleaner before applying leather shield? No. There is no waiting time. Just ensure the surface is dry and all cleaner residue is removed/wiped before applying Shield. 2) How often do we need to reapply Leather Shield? Leather Shield is a sealant. A non permanent sealant that needs to be refreshed once every 3-6 months depending on use. It provides protection from abrasion damage and dye transfer on new leather. 3) Are the products in this video suitable for fake/synthetic leather? Yes, the product is suitable for genuine leather (non absorbent only) & all types of artificial leather/leatherette.

Be very careful when using magic erasers and APCs or degreasers on leather surfaces. Magic erasers are abrasives and if used to hard or too often can damage the protective coating that's on the leather. APCs and degreasers are often too alkaline (high pH) and can change the leather's pH which can harm it long term. For regular maintenance, the lowest aggression should be used: the techniques shown in this video.

What polish? I don't understand your question. In this video, we talk about step 1 which is a leather cleaner, to remove oils, dirt and restore a matte appearance. Only use magic erasers in extreme cases as those are abrasives that could potentially harm the leather’s coating. Start with a strong dedicated leather cleaner like in this video with the techniques shown and see how that works. Always the least aggressive methods first.

Always try with the least aggressive method first, like in this video. If that isn't enough, you can try a mild all purpose cleaner and if that still doesn't work, a degreaser with a magic eraser, but don't do this too often as you could damage the leather's coating.

Pan sorry to ask again about colourlock - my car when new 3.5 years ago had Gyeon leather shield applied. Matt at OG brought this up to colourlock in his video and they said it would likely have to be removed to apply their products. Would you suggest I avoid colourlock protector/shield because of that, or is nearly 4 years enough for original coating to be gone?
@PanTheOrganizer
Жыл бұрын
Hi Joel. The leather coatings, like Gyeon Leather Shield, only last approximately 12 months. Leather sealants last 3 months on average. So if it has been over three years since Leather Shield was applied in your car, you can go ahead and simply clean the leather with Colourlock Leather Cleaner (Heavy) and then apply the Colourlock sealant. Or, there is a new Colourlock Top Life leather coating kit available, which I reviewed here: kzitem.info/news/bejne/t4OE24aJnYWId6Q

Hi Pan, I was cleaning the drivers leather seat with diluted APC 1:10. Some black came on the microfibre cloth after I wiped it down, At first I thought it was dirt so I redid it again but the cloth was darker than before. I repeated the process over and over again thinking how dirty the previous owner could possibly , but the amount of 'dirt' was not reducing in any way. Then I realised it must be the leather dye coming off! How is that possible? The car is 2017 bmw with just 50,000km! Did you ever encounter something similar, and what is the best way forward?

Great video Pan! I have a question if you don't mind, right after you 've finished applying the Colourlock products in this video , may I go ahead and apply the Gyeon q2 ceramic leather protection on the wheel?
@PanTheOrganizer
Жыл бұрын
Hi Bogdan. Don't combine different protectants. If you are using the Colourlock leather sealant, don't apply the Gyeon leather protection on top. Once the leather is cleaned, pick one protection. Not two. Also, Colourlock has a new more durable leather protection, which I reviewed in this video: kzitem.info/news/bejne/t4OE24aJnYWId6Q Also, here is a more recent steering wheel cleaning and protection tutorial that I produced: kzitem.info/news/bejne/2YigqGqGoGikrX4

What products did you use? And how is you leather so dirty and oily looking in just 4 months?? Did you use a leather brush or a leather scrub pad for more mechanical scrubbing action? Sometimes, multiple applications are needed to clean the surface, or get a stronger cleaner like the Colourlock Leather Cleaner STRONG, instead of the mild version. @@PanTheOrganizer hey pan thanks so much for replying. Hi Pan. Quick question for you. I have white pin head sized spots and specs on my Audi S4 steering wheel that I bought used. I've been detailing the car and a standard clean doesn't remove them. I tried a spot clean and some pressure with a microfiber can remove them but it is abrasive and leaving a mark. Any tips to remove them? Have you seen before. I figure it is a grease spot that has acted with UV to mark the clear or something?

It's hard to say, as I can't see your steering wheel in person. But the Colourlock stuff is a pro grade kit for sure. If it doesn't work with this, you would need to be a bit more agressive with something like a Mr Clean Magic Eraser and lightly buff with a leather cleaner or mild APC. That should take care of it. You always want to start with the softest methods first and move up from there until the issue is resolved.
