Have you tried soaking the lens in a 50/50 solution of 3% hydrogen peroxide (what you get at a pharmacy) and household ammonia? It chemically removes the fungus, no rubbing needed so you don’t risk scratching the soft coatings.

Very nicely filmed. I have the same lense and the same adapter. The problem i have is that if i like rotate the aperture or the sharpness ring, the silver circle also moves and like demounts my lense.

It is good practice to not clean any lens in a circular motion as if anything should accidentally cause scratches they will be longer and more prominent. I recommend going across instead.

Thanks for this video it’s very well done...any idea how to deal with the aperture ring being stuck at A setting and won’t turn? I cannot mount the lens now for this reason. One time put the lens on the A setting while it’s not mounted and this happened.... I cannot do anything at all to get the aperture ring off the A now...no matter how hard I press on the spring button next to the A...thanks for any tip you may have ....

ugh. to be honest I wish you were a lot more clear on the reassembly of the breech lock. Lenses and elements were straight forward but then when I saw you didnt fully de-click your aperture I realized maybe he isn't totally sure. So currently im stuck with a lens I can't use. I can't figure it out.

I had to close the window in the room and turn off all the fans. I let the room settle for a bit before I started working on the lens. But either way you'll have the have the rocket blower to remove any specs in there.

My FD 50mm f1.4 looks completely different on the inside from the back. The brass section unscrews instead of lifting away and the mechanism triggering the aperture blades is completely different. I've not been able to successfully put it back together so far.

May be the non-SSC version? I know they made two that otherwise look very similar, but one says SSC in red and the other doesn't (its some coating). If that's the lens then it would be a different video! Best of luck :)

Hello, check minute 35:20 there's a fork on the lens that has to match with the pin on the mount. Its spring-loaded so you'll need to pull the pin to match it with the fork when your marching the screw holes

@@dln.camera5524 I read about a fellar, Tom Leonard on Petapixel using a mixture of ammonia and peroxide to remove the fungus completely. He let it soak in the solution for 2-20 minutes and it's gone. The lens coating appears to survive very nicely.

fungus are exactly like 'mushroom spores', with many many tiny irregularly shaped, like tree roots, they are actually tiny cracks in the coating, that is why it is impossible to get rid of it permanently, given the right (bad) conditions it will always return...
