Note: This is a super quick clean for the sake of making this video shorter.
Ideally you will want to thoroughly clean the frame and slide until there is no more reside on the white cleaning cloths.
After you have finished thoroughly cleaning, coat any metal/friction parts (Slide, rails, barrel exterior) with a light coat of oil or CLP as used in the example. That means a light film, not dripping wet.
Remember:
- ALWAYS make sure your firearm is clear before cleaning.
- The USP does not require a lot of oil; don't overdo it.
- Ensure the inside of the barrel is dry/clean. (Avoids excess pressure)
- Do not oil the firing pin. (Located towards rear/back of frame)
- Once everything is reassembled, wipe down the slide with a microfiber towel.
Steps:
- Remove slide release by press pin on opposite side of frame.
- Pull the slide forward to remove.
- Remove recoil assembly (spring) by pulling up.
- Remove barrel by pulling out then up.
- Deep clean the frame, slide, rails, etc.
- Apply light coat of oil film to friction prone areas.
- Reassemble.
- Lock slide back with slide release.
- Dab oil onto bore snake.
- Drop brass end of bore snake into barrel.
- Pull bore snake on through.
Note: You can use a white cleaning cloth with a rod as well if you don't have a bore snake. Even with the bore snake, I prefer going back again and running a dry white cloth through the barrel to ensure it's spotless.
