Any time you expose fresh metal likevthis it instantly begins to rust. Coat itcwith some kind of metal protectant; my choice is a gun lubricant called TetraGun. I apply with a nylon dremel brush, as the more friction is applied, thebetter it bonds, supposedly. Seems to help a lot.

Try using a zinc-based primer to coat the bare metal surfaces

Hey do you think you can show how to use dremel on burnt bottom pan with old oil residue that has turned black😬 or for oven stove top. I hv tried some but it left scratches mark.

Hehe. I don't know if im qualified to make that video. My guess is that it will be hard to get a good result with the Dremel. Using any sanding bands/discs will leave scrathes in the materials. And the fine sanding discs will not be very effective at removing to much material. I usually use a metal scraper for the type of jobs you describe, and then finish it off with a scrubbing sponge and soap.

@@rotarycrafts8760 many thanks! Appreciate your time to reply ! I know it sounded so alienated from woodworking but just on random thoughts.

I had a thought: what about a professional stainless steel cleaner? Some cookware manufacturers sell them, such as Lagostina. Then maybe start with a very low grit sanding disc and use that to apply the cleaner using the Dremel.

I use an angle grinder with crimped wire cup brush from Harbor Freight $5. Much faster. Save the Dremel for detail work. This is way too much time with Dremel.

They have steel brushes in more pointy shapes. Might be able to get into screw holes with that.

@@rotarycrafts8760 will need to look them up, I got one but it's like a mushroom head, so not good for small circular holes.

This is great, however you could’ve just placed the rusty item in vinegar for 24 hours.

Thanks! This was a helpful video. Yes I tend to go with citrus baths if it's an all metal object. If the vinegar smell puts you off, you can use concentrated lime. It's usually readily available at grocery stores. The vinegar or citrus bath has the same dangers of immediate rust onset when the metal is removed from the bath. As the previous poster stated, some sort of protection coating is needed. Grease can also do the job. I have even been able to get away with using clear coating sprays/shellac to protect the metal.

@@rotarycrafts8760 I was thinking the same thing; soak in white vinegar, or even use an inexpensive rust remover solution/gel - and THEN finish up polishing, etc with your Dremel. Very good tutorial, non the less and thank you. Take care...
