Hi. One difference I noticed (I’m a novice) between VR systems and other types of climbing is that the latter don’t use cows tails for securing gear or backing up. Any specific reason for that?

Standards are all over the place as far as safety. In the rope access world you have to have redundancy in every phase of your operation as well as the rescue world. Arborists, rock climbers, hunters, cavers, etc. operate much differently. In my next video on climbing, which you should watch, I show the use of a Petzl ASAP and a two-rope system for climbing. Anytime you leave the ground you should have safety in mind and a way to fix any problem you may encounter. And back-ups such as lanyards, cows tails, another rope, etc. I didn't show that in the video because I wanted to teach the climbing method without confusion.

@@perryfire3006 thanks for the speedy reply. My entry point to this topic/activity was via the state emergency services (i volunteer here in Australia) so that’s all I know. Watching YT and the content people like you kindly provide is a privilege we as viewers tend to take for granted. Thanks again. M

@@martinm931 If you are Australian then you have a wonderful asset by the name of Richard Delaney. I've had the privilege of training with him several times, once in your beautiful Blue Mountains. You won't meet a more knowledgeable or humble man. Shout out to your firemen out there too. I met some great people serving your fire service. And good luck with your career and if I have helped in any way that makes me feel good. One day I may make some videos outlying the different standards that different disciplines require because it is confusing especially for newbies. Add new equipment that is continually being developed and it gets even more confusing. My advice is to learn from every discipline and to stay on top of new trends. Cheers
