wait so i'm not supposed to climb dead pine trees 10 feet from the trunk with 2 points of contact while actively falling asleep during a mild panic attack? got it. Great video! super excited for the 10 different ways to climb a tree!

I began climbing trees this year spontaneously and the only 3 tips I've followed either instinctively or from random knowledge is: 1: 3 point contact 2: Don't panic 3: and grab close to the tree I'll likely rewatch this a few times to familiarise myself with the contents. Cheers for the comprehensive explanations.

That's awesome! I think a lot of the information is intuitive when you start climbing a tree, but I would rather get it out there just to be safe. That way people can know it ahead of time vs having to learn from the mistake of falling out of tree.

Back in my childhood I was the best tree climber around, climbed on the very top of most trees because I was small and it was really hard for me to break any branches. I probably spent as much time on trees as on the ground as a kid lol. I would love to start climbing trees again, but I can't force myself to, because I know someone will definitely look at me and think that I'm stupid/insane etc. or even call the cops on me XD
@ronniestreetstunts
28 күн бұрын
haha I feel you there. It's taken time for me to not care as much what people will think of me, but I do try to do it when there aren't a lot of people around lol. Or if I go with friends it's easier to not worry about it.

Love the vid! Something that is useful for resting while climbing is using skeletal locks. Elbow hooks, leg hooks, hand jams, etc. You can get multiple points of contact if you constrict with a limb wrapped around a branch / nodes. The goal here is minimal effort and keeping your torsos center of gravity close to the strongest part of the tree. This makes climbing much safer and more efficient, rather than relying on muscular tension. Happy climbing 🙌🏼

I've ran a PK session with kids on tree climbing safety last year. One kid didn't pay attention, fell and cut his leg. Luckily it wasn't as bad as it looked. Even if it comes intuitively, it is important to point out these tips.

Oh that's too bad, but glad it wasn't serious. I think trees can be unpredictable enough and dangerous enough at height it's worth reviewing.

I have climbed a lot of trees. generally easy ones. then I worked as an arborist and still do sometimes. It is quite a different thing to do it with ropes, It's cool that I can climb any tree with them, but freeclimbing feels much "lighter" so I still do it occasionally for fun.

Do you think my flat footedness would impede barefoot climbing
@ronniestreetstunts
28 күн бұрын
I'm not familiar enough with flatfootedness to know how it would affect you. If you decide to experiment with it start with small amounts of exposure to it, to see how it affects you and then slowly start increasing the exposure overtime.
@riuphane
28 күн бұрын
As a climber with flat feet, the flexibility of your feet is more advantageous, but not essential. Working on flexibility is the best thing you can do anyway, but otherwise it's not going to make much, if any, of an impact.
