Why didn’t you let them settle and go back when it got dark , they all would have in and very easy to collect not leaving any behind. Every bee counts in my hives , anyway was a good swarm ,love the skep beehive . 👍

Mainly because it was some distance from my home and there was no guarantee that it would have been there when I returned.

I’ve enjoyed your barefoot beekeeper book and am reading it for the second time. Built a tbh a couple months ago and last week a swarm moved in. So far so good. Hopefully the central Florida weather will also co-operate until the colony gets stronger… thanks for thinking outside the langstroth

Drumming on the post with your knuckles or a piece of wood would have driven them up Ito the skep quite quickly, a method I've used often.

I was excited to see this video. I have just started to watch your channel…mainly because after saving $ for three years I finally bought hives and bees. Seeing how simple the woodwork is on them I am going to make my own from here out but getting the bees….though I can see the clear application for a bee suit…It’s a wonderful thing to go out in nature and get bees! I have been putting bee hives up around my farm buildings because we have a severe aggressive wasp problem. Being very allergic to wasps I want them to leave. In this area we have discovered that the bees are enough of a challenge to the wasps that the wasps will give up their endeavors and move on…which suits me fine. Btw- have you tried a cordless vacuum to collect the bees?

First!!! Nice job!!! I use a nuc box, a hive box or the bee vacuum to get them. I like to see them march in. Thanks!!

Hi Phil, I know you have been keeping bees treatment free for years. I am going into my second winter with bees. I went from one hive up to four this year and I have been doing treatment free. I noticed some deformed wing virus and a very small amount of sac brood in one colony. My question is do you think bees can over come the varroa pressure and eventually adapt to live with varroa and the other minor diseases. It feels like treating is the wrong thing to do, intervening with the natural adaptation and progression is only hindering bees progress long term. I’d love to hear your thoughts on this thank you.

Hi Mr Chandler, thank you so much for all your very thoughtful informative videos, I wanted to ask you question, do you place your hive above a crossing of Hartman and curry lines?

Хороший эксперимент! Другие методы : 1- Прикрепить сот к рою. 2- Прикрепить сот к рою с Апироем.(специальная мазь для привлечения роев ) 3- Прикрепить сот с открытым расплодом.

I’ve just collected a swarm and emptied them into my top bar hive how long should I leave them before inspecting them

I would give them at least a week to settle in, then take a peek by moving a follower. You will be surprised at how much comb they will have built in that time.

Hi Phil, I take my hat off to you. I wonder if you've ever tried to use use a frame of fully drawn comb placed in the midst of the swarm to act as as a lure?
@BarefootBeekeeper

Yes I have, and with some success, and I would be likely to do so again if I wanted to put the colony into a frame hive, but in this case they were going to be introduced to a top bar hive, so I chose to entice them into the skep.

HI PHIL, I was wondering how do you solve the condensation issue inside the hive over long and cold windy winter in Massachusetts. It's the back entrance in addition to 3 holes in front enough?

Was this in your own garden ? In that you had time to try different collection methods, out of the hat, so to speak ! 😊

No, this was about 10 miles from my garden, and not my bees.
