Great video - You mentioned changing the grade "over the course of a scene". Is this process done manually/numerically, using some sort of key framing, or other?
@BarrettKaufman
4 ай бұрын
There's a couple ways to do it, but in this case I set a start and end sat level, then adjusted the clips in between on a shot-by-shot basis. No keyframes if I recall correctly

With the midtone detail, did you audition the texture pop ofx at all? I found it to allow for much finer tuning, and less of that "fake hdr" photography look.
@BarrettKaufman

There are a number of tools that could serve the purpose, but we started with midtone detail and liked the results. Texture pop could work as well, but it was more complexity than needed

Hi Barret, I see that you work within the 'group post clip & timeline,' but one thing that makes me curious is whether you also make adjustments at the clip level? Because I've noticed that every time you toggle the exposure node in the group post clip, all the clips match well.
@BarrettKaufman

I definitely do plenty at the clip level, but the goal of this video was to look at the process from a more macro level

@@BarrettKaufman Can you give me an overview of what you do? Just to make sure I don't get lost. Do you also make corrections on exposure, contrast, and balancing at the clip level? And then, do you finally make adjustments to exposure, contrast, etc. again in the group post clip?

Do you use curve for creating tonal contrast? Do tonal contrast goes to timeline or clip adjustment?
@BarrettKaufman

As a general rule: linear contrast clip to clip, s-curve at a timeline or scene level

I always struggle how to correct contrast in clip with tonal curve look in mind. Are there general rule of thumb how to correct / shotmatch contrast? Like spesific ire range?

Monitors are a tricky discussion and there's not a one size for all answer sadly. I'll put this idea on my list for future videos to chat through this decision making process 👍🏻
