I feel communication, respect and sincere care for your partners happiness seems to be the reoccurring theme for a healthy relationship. If your partner is saying your request is stupid and is not willing to discuss/understand it, I think that's the first problem that needs to be addressed.

The guy here was pretty defensive and not so receptive nor curious about his partners perception. That shows he’s making it mean something (narrative) about him and likely hitting a core wound (obviously not resolved). You can see how she tries to calm him, placate him a bit. Yikes. Glad you guys were brave enough to show this while giving others advice on their relationships!! I’m currently studying neuroscience and psychology after having been in medicine for over a decade. I’ve worked with thousands of people… this interaction is a bit of a red flag. Please check into the cognitive distortions and defense mechanisms and most importantly “why”…introspection and metacognition is key.

a needy person is not attractive. And a rude one is worse. I think these two did a good example of showing how you are supposed to express your need for attention without being clingy and how to respond to a request for attention by being considerate but firm. Trying to give your partner what they want when you can is pretty important -- understatement.

Trying to give your partner what they want when you can is important. What if your partner expects you to do it on your own. Example. My partner and i live in to different states. I drive to her gym so we both can workout together and maximize the time we have together. It was her suggestion i agreed. It was my happy choice to go to her gym. It has been an issue when i said im going to the gym to workout and spend time with you. In return my partner asked, why am i im not doing it for me? Which has me confused as to did i make the right choice by doing what she wanted when i can?

I'd love for you guys to be expand on that last little bit. Meeting the others request when you don't feel like it / can't rationalise it. And, the balance that can be displaced if one does and the other doesn't. Powerful stuff!

I hope my partner and I will overcome our communication issues. I resonate 100% with you Lisa. What I found interesting and maybe you can expand on this is the fact that you made 2 comments about the morning text. The most impactful was 'making an effort'. It seems that if that is something you were doing for yourself that it wouldn't be an effort and there would be no expectation of a response needed. It would just be part of your routine, same as brushing your teeth. The 2nd comment was about your 'due credit'. That makes it seem like you are saving up credits just in case they are needed in the future and maybe that is represented by the defensive stance Lisa saw in Tom's response. I appreciate and enjoy all of your youtube channels but this one kind of feels like sitting in on your therapy sessions. Not necessarily a bad thing. :)

A single day should be able to go by where partners did not communicate with each other. Having to text or call your S.O at distinct times of the day, every day is too mechanical. Deviations from routine and individuality is healthy. If one is vacationing, say, then let them.

What I’ve found with requests like that is when you do the request, another one pops up. People don’t want the means, they wants the ends. Once you find what the person is truly needing and meet that need, usually those types of requests don’t come up. Some go to ones to look for in feminine dominant people are feeling unseen, not understood and unsafe.

I do not agree with the perspectives on this. Let me elaborate when a husband and wife get married and take vows, they both agreed to be the primary person for the other in terms of financial, spiritual, mental etc. so if he goes away there shouldn’t be any day that goes by that he isn’t communicating with her. Anything can happen at any moment and then what? No goodbye, no communication. It’s unhealthy. It doesn’t take but a moment to text. Why is it such a big deal? Women ask for the simplest things!

You are so fabulously clear on what happen to you and generous for each other. I am glad I found you. You represent what I believe a couple should be able to handle. Although I never did. What you must realise and I think it is your biggest luck. You trust your bond. Not just your partner. You believe in a possible love Bond between you and somebodyelse. It is a gift. I don't know how to catch up with this issue if you don't have this believe in the depth of the heart. May be you could speack about it. I would very much appreciate this. Many thamks for your exemple of communicating with an open heart and a courageous soul. Take care of you. You are showing the path.

So as I’m watching this, I’m seeing that the guy is not really hearing her in terms of her needs. She just wants your attention. She wants to feel thought of and seen. When you don’t text her good morning or at least check in with her through the day, it hurts. That shows that you don’t care about her emotional needs, but you expect her to bow down to your standards, and you make it as if she can’t have her own boundaries for her needs. The guy seems like a total narcissist and I see her trying to tip-toe around her answers because she doesn’t want to set him off… and that right there is manipulation and gaslighting on the guy’s part. She shouldn’t have to suppress her true needs just for the sake of keeping the peace.

Why do i need my partner to confirm with me 3x/day when i know he/she is busy and or at work? I don't think the romantic type of love is special. And I am started to think that the romantic type of love isn't real. I mean about more than half of romantic couples either break up with each other or divorce each other, while most platonic best friends remain friends until death. I think that having a platonic best friend is a lot better than having a romantic partner or spouse is. Having someone who's like a sibling to you is a lot better than having a romantic partner or spouse. Also, you are more likely be much more closer to someone who's like a brother or sister to you than you would be with a romantic partner or spouse. People tend to fight with their partner or spouse a lot more than they do with a platonic best friend, and you never fight with your best friend the way you fight with your partner or spouse. Partners and spouses are just temporary. If you break up or divorce them, it's hard to go back to them. With your platonic best friend, you're going to make things work, because they are your best friend, they are your go to partner. It's always easier to make amends with them than it is with a romantic partner or spouse.
